Hi guys, my standard C5 shifter (98) doesn't want to center itself after pushing to the right in the 5th to 6th line but is perfect after pulling left on the 1st to 2nd, any ideas ?
I have no gear selection or other problems apart from the centering issue.....thanks.
Shift lever centering is caused by a spring inside the transmission. The OEM shifter doesnt have any return or centering springs.
If you pull out the OEM shifter the shift lever will flop around like an old dish rag.
So, what I would recommend is that you purchase an after market shifter that has centering springs and a shorter throw. I personally like the KIRBAN Shifter. It is excellent quality and works very well.
There are other ones. Some other people will most likely recommend more shifters. Just make sure that the one you get has centering springs in it or you will have the same issue.
Did the C6 Z06 with a c6 boot this weekend, NIGHT AND DAY Difference from stock, with the install guide from patches it took an hour in full. I strongly recommend the swap, i had issues getting into 1st, 1st to 2nd, and Reverse. key work HAD!

Hey Bill,
thanks for the heads up regarding the tranny being the naughty boy and not the shifter. I am keen on the 'MGW' 30% shaft travell reduction.
Does anyone know if it has return springs and if they have a reasonable amount of tension in them.
