Default Service Column Lock

This morning I got the "remove key and wait 10 seconds" displayed. This has happened a hand full of times before. So, like always, I removed the key and waited. This time though, the "service column lock" came on the display and the car dies. This has never happened before. The steering wheel is NOT locked. I have no idea if the car has had any recalls done before. How can I check to see?

Is a CLB already installed since the steering wheel doesn't lock? Or could that be from one of the recalls installed?

I did a quick search before I made this thread, but I didn't find any solutions right away.

You probably have one of the 1/2 a$$ fixes from GM installed. Your in security mode now, it will start and die if you go over 2mph. Pull the bottom of the dash and see if a CLB has been installed (unlikely).

if the steering does not lock when you shut the car off and you can hear the lock actuator moving, the lock has been deactivated but you probably do not have a clb installed unless it has gone bad. the dealer has done several fixes but none of them work. get a clb (column lock bypass) from one of the form vendors (i think i got mine through corvettes of houston for $50). check the stickie above or search vendor section for clb and get one and install it.

I am fixing to order a CL bypass. Once I install it will the problem go away or will it not fix it since the problem is already there?

It will take care of it , just follow the instructions. Corvettes of Houston is a good place to buy it from, they have lots of experience with these. Do it before your steering locks though.......it will not unlock a frozen column.

I got the service column lock the other day while driving. I was running about 50 when it done it. It didn't die or anything. I stopped and shut the car off and restarted it and haven't seen it since. I also have the CLB from corvettes of Houston and still got the message

Thanks for the help everyone. I went a head and ordered the CLB from Corvettes of Houston. So hopefully when I receive it I will be able to drive the Vette again. I guess I could drive it right now....at 2 mph.
