Default Headlight Motors wont open or close motors good Help :(

Hi all-

Ok. Today I took my jetski to the ocean to ride. Yes I have a hitch on my c5 to tow it but its only 400lbs total I hooked up the towing wiring from the trailer to the end on my car. My chick noticed my back brake lights were now faded when I put the brakes on so maybe something is shorting out on the trailer wiring, not sure. Anyways, I had my twilight set to on. When I pulled into a parking spot my lights all of a sudden went up even though it was 1pm in the afternoon with no darkness. I turned off the twilight and the lights stayed up and did not go down even though the headlights themselves were not lighting up, just stuck up. They are still in the up position tonight but the headlights do eluminate.

Why wont my lights go up and down all of a sudden? Did I blow a fuse or relay to the headlight motors? I checked all the fuses in the engine compartment and every one of them are good. I did not see any relays for the head light motors in the engine fuse box. Help! My lights were fine last night using them. The motors are not bad. Is there a relay or fuse in the engine or under the passenger compartment that makes them go up and down? If so can u direct me to which one?

I disconnected my battery and tried to "reset" them and they are still stuck up. They will go up and down manually turning them, but it seems as there is absolutely no power going to the motors. I am pretty sure I blew a fuse or relay ect from hooking up my jetski trailer lights which probably had a short in the wiring. Can anyone help me or direct me to where the headlight relays/fuses are in this car? Thanks all

Check the fuse box again for blown fuses first. If no fuses are blown, check for a problem ground behind the headlamps. G101 and G102 (G102 is ground for the headlamp door control module). Not sure about the relays.

Check the harness on the trailer. If a fuse is bad on the car, check for a short to ground using an ohm meter (trailering wiring harness on the car. Look for it on the trailer since the car was working fine before trailering.

My best guess.

Thanks for the response but before I go looking for ground wires ect, it seems tome that the car has fuses and relays for a reason, in case a wire gets too much volts due to a short ect. I really think my trailer wire may have shorted out a fuse or relay ect as my lights worked fine 4 hours before and never had a problem. All of a sudden after plugging in my trailer with my ski on it, 25 mins later my lights popped up by themselves as if it was night time and the twilight activated and put them up. Can anyone direct me to a fuse or relay that runs the motors up and down? There has to be one somewhere as I cant imagine on an electrical part like that there isnt one. I did check the "hdlp fuse right" and "hdlmp fuse left" in the engine compartment fuse box and neither one was blown. Is there a main relay that runs them both?

For example. My horn fuse went bad one day from me laying on the horns too long. Not only is there a horn fuse but there is also a separate horn relay which is in the engine compartment fuse box right near the horn 10amp fuse. So I would imagine if the horn has a relay and a fuse, then the headlight motors do as well? Any help very much appreciated. Thanks!

Grounds are good. Any other help as in a relay or main fuse? Thanks!

there is a headlight control module located behind the passenger headlight assembly. This goes bad quite often in the C5 and would cause your symptoms.

You might also try to switch on your high beams as sometimes this affects resistance somehow and opens/closes the headlights.

Nevermind thanks for the emails but I found it. There IS a fuse that controls the headlights to pop up and close. It is located in the fuse box under the passenger compartment. It is a 10amp red one on the top left side. I just fixed it myself. This was due to my trailer shorting it out as I had stated earlier and just needed help finding the relay or fuse that controls the headlamp motors. I'll keep in mind the control module one day. Ive only got 35k on a 2000 so I hope I have lots of time to pass b4 that happens Thanks all!
