Default Blackwing experts...

I noticed that the newer Blackwings I have seen at SLP do not have the smaller hose attachment...does anyone have/use one of these and know why that is???
The reason I ask is that I purchased a Blackwing brand new for my '01 back when they were new...I had that smaller (not the coupler) hose actually break away taking a small chunk of plastic when it gave way...I think it was a void in the mold but who's to say...anyway...Donaldson no longer owns the Blackwing...SLP does...the place I bought mine from no longer exists either...SLP offered to sell me a used one for more than I paid for mine brand new...they also were no help...so much for the phone call to The Great White North...
I am wondering...since I still like the Blackwing and it is not being used and since it seems the smaller hose is no longer part of the design, if I could plug that hole and not use it...could I be enjoying my Blackwing again trouble free???...what does everyone do with that smaller hose...what does it connect to???
Any help would be greatly appreciated...I am using the stock airbox with an '02 Z06 airbox lid but I miss the added sounds (and maybe the added something...) of my Blackwing...
Thanks,

Bill

Link to the Blackwing like I have...note the smaller hose near the bottom of the pic...where that attaches to the body of the Blackwing is what gave way on mine leaving a slightly enlargened, jagged hose.

I realize this pic shows it is for the C6 but this is how they appear now...no hole for the smaller attachement hose (unless this is the pic from SLP I saw and only the C6 has eliminated this hose)

If there's nothing else wrong with your "BLACKWING", simply repair/plug the hole. You can buy black plastic hole plugs at almost any ACE or TRUE VALUE hardware store. They snap in place, but if they don't cover the entire opening, a little black silicone will work. A black rubber stopper would work.
It may not be pretty, but it'll be much cheaper than another after market filter unless you can find one inexpensively in the CF classifieds. They are found there frequently.
You can add a small filter to the end of the air pump hose. You can find a small filter at AUTO ZONE or CHECKER in the "import performance" aisle. They're usually in red media with a chrome top and bottom. They have a large male rubber grommet in the bottom that would go into a valve cover. The ID of the hose is about 5/8" to 3/4" as I recall. The import filters should fit w/o the need for a clamp.

If the original rubber grommet that fit in that hole will not seal the opening anymore then plug the opening and use a separate filter for the other line. Some epoxy probably could be used to seal the hole.

First, I appreciate the responses...I understand about covering the hole...no problem...I am wondering what to do with the rubber pipe of the Corvette that used to attach to it...the original grommet went with the broken piece on down the road...thanks,
Bill

The rubber pipe as (you call it) or the rubber hose on the Corvette is the air inlet hose for the air pump. Add the additional small aftermarket filter, as the above post stated to the end of this hose, and you are good to go! This just makes sure the air pump gets clean air.
