Default Headunit Question>

What so we need to do to make this work http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1309578025 Are there adapters or do we have to replace the Bose system?

You will need two adapters. 1 for the antenna and one to connect the aftermarket h/u to the bose speakers. Should be under $100. I had an Alpine installed in my 99 C5 and they installed two adapters. Don't have any part numbers. Hope this helps.

You need to educate yourself on what your system consists of. Most installers have no clue about the C5 Bose system. They are more familiar with the C4 one. You will need an antenna adapter, and they will need to figure out how to keep the Bose sub amps happy without the BSP connected to the HU. You will also need to find switched power. In reality it will be a PITA for an inexperienced installer without a C5 service manual.

Each door has a 4 ohm 3.5 inch Bose Twiddler and a 2 ohm 8 inch Bose reverse cone subwoofer. In the rear is a pair of 4 ohm 6.5 inch Bose Twiddlers. The amp for all the Twiddlers is in the HU. The amp for the each subwoofer is inside each subwoofer housing.

The 3.5 inch front and 6.5 inch rear speakers are driven by a 4 ch power amp
in the HU. The HU's four pre-amp outputs go to the Bose Signal Processor
(BSP), for filtering. The BSP then sends the high frequency signals back to
the HU internal power amp to drive the 4 high frequency speakers and a pair
of summed unfiltered signals to the subwoofer amps.

If either your HU, BSP, 3.5 inch Twiddler or wire harness are bad, you will
have the problem you have now.

If you are getting a new HU, why not just upgrade the speakers and add an amp...

From what I have seemed to hear out of the Stock HU... it is actually a quality HU for a stock head unit... I kept the Stock HU and added a new amp and new speakers... it sounds really good... plus people dont think that I have it in my car since when they look into the car... it all looks stock...

My 99's Stock HU w/ an Alpine 5Ch amp... and MB Quarts All around w/ a 10in MB Quart Sub sounds much better than and is clearer than my friends 2001 w/ stock speakers and a new Pioneer HU...

When you keep the stock HU, you keep the cars coomputer "Happy" since you dont change anything... plus you keep Speed Sensitive Volume.. and I cannot stress the point that it looks(it is) stock in appearance so anybody wanting a Free HU wont look at your C5... and it will sound just as good as anything else....

Remember this: I heard this from my installer:
When you buy new speakers you are improving sound quality... the HU... just adds features that you may or may not want....

Now if the HU has some feature that you want... by all means get it... but otherwise....why not get some good sound from the speakers.... not only the HU...

If you are interested in installing the items like I did... search in Audio for 99HT's post...
