Oil pressure????????????????
I had H/C installed and now my oil pressure seems to be suspect. It is around 50 psi cold 80-120 degrees but only mid 30s from 120-170 degrees.
Now what worries me is that it is 24-26 psi at 180-200 degrees at idle and around 30-35 at 2k RPM. I have a ported LS6 oil pump. I am using Walmart brand 5w-30 full synthetic with a Walmart brand oil filter. This is the oil and filter I have always used and dont remember the pressure being this low, but truthfully have never paid super close attention to it. What do you think?

Called my tuner, he said his PSI is about the same so must just be the hot temps and 5W/30 oil. I am thinking about changing over to 10W/30 for the summer.

Thanks for the advice on my long vs shorty headers thread. My 99 vert also has a low oil pressure reading and I'm bone stock...around 4o's cold, 30's warm, and I dip down into the 20's and have seen some teens at idle hot...ran a thread on here and got mixed reviews. some guy even said that for a healthy vette all you need is 10 psi for every 1000 rpm's. sounded like b/s to me. with all the advice i got no one seemed to answer the question on low psi's other than oil change, sender relocate, and torn o ring could be the cause. good luck and I'll be following this thread to see if anyone actually provides sound advice towards the problem...

10w30 isnt going to do much but be a little thicker when cold. If you want to go thicker while at operating temp then go with a 10w40. This is what I run in the summer in all my cars because of the extreme heat here in AZ.
