Default WHAT IS happening???

I recently installed the Blackwing filter (4/30/08) and twice I've had my car not start. One was on 5/2 after driving home from work I stopped at a store ran in and bought something came out within 5 minutes and all accessories came on but the car wouldn't turn over at all. Nothing happened when I turned the key to start. THEN again sunday I went to starbusck and bought something, came out within 5 minutes and it wouldn't start. Each time this happened I just waited maybe 2-3 minutes and it started. Each time it was after the initial startup and the car had cooled completely (it was off for over 3 hrs). I have no idea it's like I have a kill switch and it's switched off, only there is not kill swtich. Is a coil over heating? My starter going? Any help would be great. I read the post on grounds but I don't think it'd be that... Thanks.

TI don't think that the installation of the BW has anything to do with not starting, but I could be wrong.
Are you getting any codes on the DIC?
Sound like you have to check your + connection at the starter or at the battery itself.
Hot and cold can cause batterys problems.
Someone will chime in I'm sure.

Check the easy stuff first... battery would be my first guess. I had a 2 year old A/C Delco bite the dust. Spoke to the dealer I bought my Vette from and he said he has been noticing a LOT of bad A/C Delco batteries.

no codes, I didn't think the blackwing has anything to do with it but it didn't happen before that.

Also i figured if it were the battery it would be hard to start, or I'd lose accessories as well. Everything works fine and once it decides to turn over it starts immediately.

can a dealer do a free diagnostic on it? I would say battery too, as far fetched as it sounds, a bad cell can cause all sorts of weird stuff to happen.

You don't say if it's a manual or auto, but if it's a manual make sure your clutch switch is working (and the clutch depressed all the way). If an auto, try neutral instead of park to check the neutral switch. Then make sure the red wire going to the starter is tight at the starter end. Sometimes the post will burn inside the starter and will feel loose when you try to tighten the nut on the post. When that happens, you'll need the starter replaced.

My thought is to double check the battery connection for tightness and/or corrosion.

You likely disconnected the battery per intake install instructions for the computer re-learn procedure.

Maybe you didn't get it buttoned back up quite tight enough?

it is an auto, the first time it happened i tried it in neutral and nothing as well. I'll double check the battery tonight, and I did disconnect it but tightened it thoroughly when I re-connected it.

If it's none of these sounds like I'll have to get into the starter... thanks!

My first guess (educated guess since I had a Camaro with the exact same problem) would be starter. Do you have long-tubes? The problem with the starter was heat related. Once it got hot, it wouldn't start. Let it cool off for a few minutes and it was fine.

Symtoms were exatly as you described. No crank at all, but all other accessories were fine.

Now for a true funny story from the 50's.
Chrysler gets a complaint that thier car didn't like vanilla ice cream!

The story was that without fail, when the father stopped on his way home from work and bought vanilla ice cream, the car wouldn't start when he came out. If he bought any other flavors, there was no problem.
This so intriqued Chrysler engineers that they sent someone to investigate. It turned out that indeed, when buying the vanilla, the car didn't start. After further investigation, turns out that the vanilla ice cream was at the front of the store in a convience case, while the other flavors were at the back of the store. It took less time to buy vanilla, and in the mean time, trying to restart the engine too soon after stopping caused it to vapor lock. Only waiting that extra minute eliminated that problem!

lol, funny story...

No longtubes all stock other than the filter. It's weird because I was driving home from Columbus and had been driving for little more than an hour and got gas and it started right up. So far it's intermittent at best but it definitely has to do with short drive followed by short shut off... who knows. Any way to check battery to see if it's ok? Maybe I'll just drive home(so if it doesn't start i won't be stuck) today, go inside for a few and try to restart it...

Try cleaning the VATS pellet on the key with a pencil eraser. It may not be making full contact with the security system.

If you were waiting 2 to 3 minutes without retrying the key it could be the VATS system. The time delay before you can attempt a retry on starting the car is 3 minutes.
