Default what happened...?

i was trying to fix the turn signal lever in my 99 vert...i ran down the battery and got a low voltage message on the dash...i charged it up with a slow charger...it started fine, but now my gas mileage (or the gas gauge at least) is reading like i'm getting terrible mileage...! i can literally watch it go down...! i was getting great mileage up until this, and don't know if i should believe the gauge now...also, the instant average is now fluctuating from 0 mpg all the way to 80 mpg...! can i somehow clear all this up, and get back to the great mileage i was getting, and correct the gauge and the instant readout...? could the draining of the battery have caused this...? please reply if anyone know, or has experienced this...! thanks

it could be battery related and still be caused by a weak battery. actually could be a myriad of things but i would make sure your battery is fully charged and in good condition. some batteries (optimus) can not tolerate a severe discharge. i would put your battery on a regular charger, charge it up and make sure the battery connections are clean and tight. reset the codes on the dic and then drive the car for a few days and recheck the codes if the problem still persists. post the codes on this form and someone will be able to give you better insight as to what you can do.
good luck
