Default Cut the air box?

Went to a car show Sunday and saw a Z06 that had the front cover of the stock air box opened up. Also saw this as a part for sale by Ecklers. Was wondering if anyone has tried this and what kind of results were obtained compared to zip tie mod.

Any mod that gets more air to the air box is good. If your going to expose the filter I STRONGLY recommend a hood seal to help keep out the water that runs down the hood from soaking the filter.

Have you looked at the FLIP TIE MOD? That sounds like something that would very well!!

Before I added my CAI I was looking at getting additional air in so I made a cut out in the airbox cover like the one sold at MA. Do a search on the zip/flip tie mod. There's a very comprehensive write up w/pics.

I initially installed a popular after market "system" and got intermittent codes. It looked good, but was not functional for me. I sold it.
Then I modified my oem (Z06/Z16) air box. It's not as sexy looking, but sounds the same as the after market (improved sound is often confused with more performance), doesn't yield codes and runs good. I used a K&N drop in filter. Some drill holes, some saw cut the opening larger.
I used a DREMEL and about 30 minutes of my time (this is the 110V version )...

Opened up my stock air box (which already contained a K&N Filter) with a dremel, drilled a bunch of 3/4 inch holes in both FOG light areas and installed a hood seal. Works great. Feels like it helps.

A 2002 Z06 or later air filter cover is a good mod, especially for an early year C5 (their air boxes are very restrictive). I did this to my 1998, no water worries and looks stock.
