I have narrowed down the 2 shifters (MGW vs C6Z06 shifter). Iam very interested in. Does anyone have any direct experience and comparison between these 2 shifters. Iam really only interested in a direct comparison. Basically looking for people that have owned both and swapped out one for the other and can voice their opinions.
Iam very well aware of the other shifters out there, so please no need to voice your opinions on those shifters. Lets keep my post direct and focused.
I had a C6 shifter and swapped it out for the MGW. I kept the C6 shifter for a couple weeks to make sure I liked the MGW...THe C6 shifter is now sold. The MGW shifter is GREAT. I've had stock (too mushy) B&M Ripper (too stiff), C6 (nice but could have been better) and now the MGW (keep this one forever).
I had the C6 Z shifter and swapped it recently for the MGW shifter. The C6Z was a very nice improvement over stock, but the throws were still longer than I liked. I have owned just about every aftermarket shifter between my two previous FRCs and this MGW is my favorite. At first I was concerned about the stiffness of side to side movement. It was really hard to get it into first and reverse. But after about a month of use this has improved greatly. I'm assuming the centering springs have broken in a bit, plus I've probably become more accustomed to it as well. The throws are so short and precise it's just rediculous. It truly is just click-click into each gear. Makes the car infinitely more fun to drive, feels like I'm shifting a track car. Now for some, the MGW may not be preferrable for daily driving. I drive my car every nice day to work, sometimes in traffic and love it, but for some it may take too much effort. For those people, the C6Z is a fantastic compromise. But, for those who only use the Z as a "fun car" and are looking for a racey/precise shifter, the MGW is the best I've seen.

Hope this is helpful to you.
Hi Bill, was wondering if you could elaborate on the firmness or stiffness you commented about. I drive my car like you on nice days and want a shifter that has a sporty feel but that is not overly stiff and tough to get into gears. Looking for easy and smooth.
and am pretty much sold on it. Now granted it is on a C6 and Iam not familiar at all with the difference in shifting smoothness between a C5 and C6 so I dunno now.
Really torn. Oh how much did you pay? I tried emailing all of this to George (MGW rep on the forum) but his emails have failed 2 times now and he has no PM setup....sorta has me wondering.
The "differences" in shifters is very subjective...best to try and drive other similar cars to yours to get a personal feel of those you're interested in...

Hey George! Thanks for coming online I will give you a call. Not sure whats up with your email. I have tried from 2 computers and both failed to go to that address. Figured I would give you a heads up.

Mine isn't as easy as in that video, but it's really a non-issue now that it's broken in. Going through the gears is CAKE, very little effort, just snick-snick into the gears. Rowing 1-5 is very easy, as is blipping back down from 6-1. Getting into first, sixth and reverse take the most effort and are the only times when you'll need to use more work than stock. Just a caution for the first 100 miles or so I was pretty upset with how difficult the MGW was, almost painful, but stick with it, it gets MUCH easier. I paid somewhere around 200 I think.
Anyone considering a spring-based shifter REALLY must try them out before buying. Historically, the buyers regret has been huge.
This is a extremely broad statement - do you have any information to share as to why the buyer regret is huge. What shifters are you referencing? We need facts and info based on actual experience, not my cousins brother's uncle on my stepfathers side from his third marriage told me he regreted it.
Getting a short-throw shifter that is percise, and accurate, but yet not stiff...hmmm sounds like saying..I want a loud cat-back exhaust with no inside drone.
anyone know if MGW is selling 2 different size shafts right now? and if so can you purchase both? How much?
I would call George, but would rather to have all my facts straight, so I can just order one over the phone.
They are only selling one size now. The nice lady I talked to when I ordered mine Tuesday told me that to many people were having a hard time deciding between the 25% and 35% shaft. They apparently met in the middle and now only offer the 30% to take that decision out of the equation.
