here's some info relative to your problem
DTC C1284 is a Lateral Accelerometer Sensor Self Test Malfunction
You need to replace the sensor in the lateral accelerometer which is mounted on the passenger side floor just ahead of the inboard passenger side seat rail.

Curious how you fixed it?

The sensor needs to be oriented in EXACTLY the same direction as it originally was ..... the direction the sensor faces is critical to the performance of the system .... it measures lateral accelerations .... if you change how it is facing then it is measuring a different (incorrect) force.
Also the location was chosen to keep the sensor as close to the car's centerline as possible so it accurately measures both left and right accelerations, and is not affected (or the effect is minimized) by body roll.
Unless you REALLY know what you are doing ... changing the sensor's location is not a good idea. Also the sensor has to be handled carefully .... if you drop it or mistreat it .... it will fail.

C1284 code
Replaced lateral accelerometer sensor. code stayed. replaced wiring. code stayed. The code reader says still has c1284 and won't reset. This is only code but when I start the car the dtc says
traction control, abs and active handling. once in a while, i get the remove key 10 seconds message and if i drive a while i get service soon message. cleaned all grounds. any ideas???
maybe ignition switch? Abs Module?? traction control switch. I try switching the traction control switch on and off and nothing happens. 2001 convertable/man trans. owned since 2004.
Now has 174000 + well maintained miles.
