Just driving around tonight, ended up sitting with the engine running for a bit, and there was NO harsh driving. I barely got it above 3K RPM.
Anyway, started riding a bit rough and I noticed when I got on it, it was a bit louder than normal. Sounded similar to an exhaust leak, only not as raspy. The roughness got more noticeable, and the RPM's started bouncing around, both at idle and when I took off. Finally, the CEL started blinking at me, I pulled over, killed the engine, and checked the codes to see P0300. Babied it back home, was only 2 miles from the apartment, and pulled it in the garage. The whole way home, I was backfiring, and the RPM's were not cooperating, as they would bounce constantly, but I kept it under the 3K mark all the way back.
It's in the garage now, and I'm not sure where to start. I'm letting the engine cool off a bit before I start digging around, but does anyone have any suggestions. I don't have any beer over here, otherwise I'd offer beverages in exchange for a visit.
Well, shortly after getting the fuel rail cover off, I found the culprit plug wire. It was not dangling, but it was literally just resting up against the plug. Now my question is, why did a plug wire come loose? I connected it back up, fired up the engine, let it idle without any problems, and then pumped the throttle without any problems. Any idea why I would have had a plug wire get knocked off like that? My "practical" knowledge of engines is minimal, so keep it simple, and I'll ask for clarification if needed.
Is hard to say why, unless it was worked on and was left loose or could be it has been a little loose for some time and just it's time to reach the no go point. You should be fine not really a big thing, you found it quick good job!
Well it's been some time now since I got the plug wire back on, but it's been holding since. The car is now at Quality Motorsports for some "minor" upgrades, I'll post more later...
