I just recently noticed a whine coming from my 2000 coupe. It seems to be related to an electric issue. When setting at idle, there is a low volume whine inside the cockpit. When I turn on my signals the whine wobbles...up and down...in unison with the signal blinking. When I step on the brake, the whine lowers and then comes back up. When I turn on the headlights...ditto, the whine reduces then regains. It is not affected by accelleration, or at least I can't hear any loudness over the Stingers.
Again, the whine is low volumed. It sounds like---I'm dating myself--- an old fashioned radio with the ***** that isn't tuned correctly. It isn't static, its a hummm.
I'm thinking it is somehow related to an electric issue. Alternator going out? The guages all seem normal. And it isn't a belt slipping. I've raised the hood and the sound is not present from the engine compartment. I hear it from inside.
Probably a noisy fuel pump. It's in the tank right behind the drivers seat. It's common for them to be noisy and for the pitch to change with electrical usage elsewhere on the car.
edit: Have you changed your fuel filter lately? Could be a sign that the pump is "working" a little harder.

Thanks. I will check that. Haven't changed the filter in two years.
