A4 automatic 3.42 rear end
Is there any difference between an A4 or 6 speed when chosing a rear end gear set. Complete pod assembly. Should I be concerned ? :confused: :cheers: :seeya

3'42's are 3.42's.A4 or M6. In fact the 3.42'a are std equip. on all 6 speeds.:D

Save a few install $$$ by installing a SY 3500 at the same time. :yesnod:
Since GM offers a 'performance axle' option, I never understood why they don't use the 3.42 instead. :confused:

The 3.42 will wake up your car for sure, but as Sully C5 said, do a converter the same time. It´s nearly the same labour and you will be happy.
A SY3500 is a perfect streetconverter.
SY3500 + 3.42 and you will not believe that you are sitting in the same car as bevore the changes!!

what does something like that cost these days, with a used 3.42 setup for say $500
SY 3500 torque converter=cost?
instal=cost?

What do you mean by "great on the street" I'm considering this mod but thought lower rpm lock up, 2400 or 2800 rpm, would be more suitable for daily driver's.

Sully C5---Good thought, & many of us A4 people would buy this in a heart beat, but, it's all about CAFE miles per gallon corporate Gov't mileage results. The General could do this IF they wanted---But they never will....We are lucky to get the 3.15 gears, let alone 3.42 gears....Regards.

Converter will be around $800 I think and install should be around $600 for both. It is not an easy job.
