Default Does 3rd or fourth make a difference on Dyno?

Just following up on my other post my whimpy 309 and 315 dyno runs are still keeping me awake, does it matter if the car is run in 3rd or 4th?

Thanks!

4th is 1:1 ratio, thus no need to correct for Torque multiplication etc...

Ughh!:( A Z06 witha Vortex only making 315? I would think you should be around at least 325+. I'd say the dyno operator doesn't know how to use the machine or they entered in some wrong data or something.

And ditto on what Kewlbrz said.

both my 01 Z06es made 343 and 345 rwhp BONE stock.....so those numbers are either flawed or the engine is not up to par

take it to a couple other dynos, and if it does this poorly again, demand a buy back ......cuz that aint right

amazing - the "tech" on this forum :)
a simple ques & no one answers...
[digression: an some here are chagrined when referred to as the "comb over crowd" on other forums :) ]

answer:when speaking about manual transmission C5's, yes, you will make about 20+ rwhp/rwtq less in third than fourth gear. everyone (except the clueless or "real" newbies) always dynos in 4th gear. just like always talking about SAE Corrected numbers, so it's apples an apples, or as much as can be anyway, there's a wide spread in dynos and repeatability. way more emphasis is put on dynos than is warranted, but they are an excellent tool, if using the same one, especially with similar conditions, to evaluate changes to your car, but as for bench racing.... well, that's another story. seems if one lives in TX/FL, you automagically get anywhere from 20 - 40 xtra rwhp :)

anyway, fourth gear is the "straight thru" gear, therefore there is much less frictional loss, as 2 fewer cogs are translating the power than in all the other forward gears (not that I've ever heard of anyone dynoing in reserve, LOL)..

so, every reputable dyno shop, that knows cars, will always do the pull (whether sitting in the drivers seat or standing next to the car) in fourth gear..

hope this helps..

"can't see how anyone can drive a C5 with less than 400 sae corr rwhp, not couting the 'pip' at the end :) "

btw - there's no such thing as "computing for torque multiplication at the dyno for different gears" :)

and here's where my obligatory "longer than one whole page lengthwise on a 1024x768 maximized window total bull sheet 'ooo look at my pretty pictures' sig" goes.. what a joke, LOL

no cure is absolutely right.

In fourth the input and output shaft are directly connected through the synchro.
