Default Coolant leak (help) !!!!!!

Hey guys I just noticed a small coolant leak in the front of my car.
What ever it is, it is hitting the front spring and hitting the floor.

It looks to be dexcool.
I looked around the water pump and see no visible signs of a leak.
I am going to crawl under it later today and see if I can find the source.

It is leaking about a drip every 30-40 minutes.

Let me know if you guys ever had this happen.
Thanks a bunch

It could be leaking from the water pump shaft seal.
Inspect closely around and under the belt pulley area.

How many miles on your car?

Check the coolant tubes on the front of the heads. You may have a bad gasket.

Some LS1 water pumps have started to leak even earlier than yours.

I would say just replace it now. It's not a bad job.

Definately check around the water pump area ... there is a "weep" hole on the bottom of the water pump "extension" (the part that sticks out and supports the pulley) that usually is the first area to leak coolant if the pump seals are failing.

Also, obviously, check the hoses to see if any have a crack or cut that is leaking.

Worst case, a pressure check of your system should quickly show where the problem is.

Well I jacked the front end up and the dripping stopped.
I still see no sign of a leak.
I dried off the spring and pressured up the system.
I am going to let it sit for a few hours and see if I see anything.
It looked dry as a bone behind the pulleys.
This is driving me nuts.

Sorry, I meant the coolant tubes to the top front of the engine block, not the heads.

turn your car on and see if the leaking begins. If so then it is probably the waterpump

mine puked for a couple days, hitting the serpentine belt in the process so the spray was all over hell and back. when I finally got it in the air to check out where exactly the leak was coming from it stopped - and since then (1k miles ago) has been bone dry. I'm just waiting for it to let go again - replacement waterpump and gasgets should be here today just in case...

I thought my waterpump was leaking from the weep hole. It would only drip a few drops overnight when the motor was cold. It would get on the balancer and make the belt chirp. Turns out when I replaced it, the leak was coming from between the waterpump and the block. I could probably just have put a few extra ft/lbs on the bolts and it would have stopped. Oh well, it needed a coolant flush anyhow.

Also check your coolant cap and level. The tray is perfectly designed to channel any amount of coolant on to the ground under the car if the cap is leaking or the seal is bad.

The coolant resevior is also known to leak under pressure where the "seam" is. See if you see any sign of orange dex cool residue on or around the coolant surge tank.

Default It is ATF fluid!!!!!!!

Well I boiled it down to it being atf fluid.
I checked the cooling lines coming out of the rad and see no leaks.
It appears to be accumilating at the front driver side of the oil pan.
I looked above it the best I can and see nothing.

The only thing I can think that has atf on it is the blackwing air filter.
I used atf fluid to oil it.
I am wondering if I went to heavy on the oil.
Does the throttle body have a seep hole if fluids or oil accumulate in it.
The throttle body is right in line with the leak.

I am going to drive it more and see if the leak stops or at least slows down.
Anyone have this happen with over oiling a air filter?

It is just a guess but see no other sources of atf that far forward in the car other than the cooling lines.Have a good one

Hi
I was under my vette for the first time sense I bought it to change all fluids and look it over, I noticed a pink sticky stuff under the water pump where it angels down to the hose, no dripping just a little sticky stuff. It came off with a rag and simple green and now I'm going to watch that area to see if it comes back. My C5 only has 49000 miles on it, seems a little early for a water pump.

The leak has been repaired with the new water pump.
Still could not tell if it was the pump or gasket.
Oh well at least I don't have anti-freeze on the floor everyday.
Thanks for the input

Check your coolant tank - - mine had a crack in it near the front and bottom that was near impossible to find.

I chased the same leak for a year! It's very likely your water pump seal, thats what mine was but I couldn't see where it was coming from, changed the pump and all is good.
