Just got my baby back from the dealer. I came
up on what looked to be a modded RX7 on the
freeway. I couldn't resist. I dropped into 3rd,
pulled along side and stabbed the throttle. He
looks over, down shifts, and takes off. He has
about a car length on me as I floor it and
start reeling him in. Traffic is comming up
fast. I go around one car just as I pull up
along side him at around 100mph, but before I
can pass him we come up on a wall of traffic.
I back off to pull in behind him. Thinking
I'll get a chance further up. This crazy guy
swerves onto the shoulder to get around the
car in front of him and keeps accelerating.
I'm a little crazy for going 100+ mph on the
freeway in traffic, but I'm not doin that! I
slowed down and let him go.
Consider this, you may not ever even go as far as you did again:
Even though you backed off if he'd have gotten into a fatal accident with a minivan that killed a Mom and her three pre-teen kids and somebody saw you two guys racing each other and got your tag & description YOU would be held just as accountable under the law.
If you play, be prepared to pay ..... it's kind of hard to enjoy a Corvette when your stuck behind bars with some other con that's just waiting for you to bend over and pickup a bar of soap.
I certainly wouldn't let that happen. I wouldn't
stick around, and I could easily claim I had no
idea what that crazy guy was doing (which I don't)
Sure I was speeding, but he must have seen me and
tried to race. I'm not responsible for other's
actions.
And I most certainly would *not* pick up the
soap.

That makes you the real winner. Yes, you were a bit crazy and perhaps shouldn't have provoked him, but at least you knew when it was about to go too far.
Stay safe and keep your thinking cap on out there.

Ok, just keep repeating that as they're leading you away in cuffs and reading you your Miranda rights for being an accessory to a crime. Maybe with a good lawyer and a lot of cash you'll get off, but don't think some pious, self righteous state prosecutor won't try to nail your derriere to the wall. :smash:
I didn't mean to imply that you would pickup the soap, just that the hard, cold reality of things going to shi-ott at the wrong moment can turn your life upside down. It happens more often than you think, usually when people get caught up in the moment and don't consider all the possible outcomes of their actions. By your own admission you pulled up beside him and egged him on, otherwise the whole incident, including the part that occurred after you backed off, probably would have never happened. Lying to save your behind is one thing, but if you honestly believe you had nothing to do with the other driver's actions then you are in serious denial. You instigated the whole thing, endangering innocent people's lives in the process, and for what?
Petty ego games. At least be man enough to admit that.
Great to play out there to a point...Read about a punk kid racing in Florida i think last year, hit and killed a pedestrian, left the scene...Got home and later got a call from police..Turns out he killed his sister...Not into preaching, but its all fun till the SH@# hits the fan... :(
First of all you shouldn't have been racing in taffic :smash:...............with that aside, you at least did the right thing by letting him go.
voisine I won't preach to you but TeamZ06 was right I can tell you that earlier this year there was a thread about a Corvette racing a Lambourgini in New York. The guy in the Lambo decided to use the opposite traffic lane to go around a car and ended up in a head on. The Corvette driver was arrested for reckless driving and as an accessory to the vehicular manslaughter. Racing in traffic is a dangerous game, the best place to race is at the track or a nice desserted warehouse district at 3:00A.M. and when you race sensible people they usually know when to quit.
I certainly agree that I instigated the racing
incident. However I'm a strong believer in
freedom and personal responsibility. I do not
feel that I am responsible for his actions in
any way. Not even for his speeding. It was his
choice to join me in a little racing. I did
not force him. If I'm responsible for his
actions then that would make him responsible
if I tried to chase him and crashed. If I had
done that, it would have been my fault and
mine alone. I also understand that the law
does not agree with my point of view. As a
matter of principal I disobey laws I feel
are unjust whenever I have an opportunity.
That also means I may have to pay the
consequences eventually. That's a risk I'm
willing to take to live the way I feel is
just and right. I never accept responsibility
without authority. I have no authority to
tell another person what to do, so neither
do I accept responsibility for their actions.
Probably a no sense young kid. Glad you let him go and gained your senses. I can only imagine you having to call your wife or GF from jail explaining that you scared some old lady into running into traffic and causing a 50 car pileup by passing her on the shoulder at 175 MPH, and that the judge is holding you on a $100,000 bond. And that she needs to bring the money or you have to stay there for a month or so until your court case comes up. It's just not worth it. Not to even mention people could get killed. Racing in traffic is a no no in my book. Just too many variables to even try to determine the outcome. Not to say I've never done it before, but as I've gotten older, I guess I think a little more. Moroso Speedway is fine for me.
