While inspecting my 2003 Vette I noticed sticky pink stuff under my water pump, stuff not coming from weap hole but looks like from maybe casting flaw, what I need is instructions on water pump removal, don't have expensive GM manuals yet and just wondered if any one out there could help with how to change the pump out. Leak seems to be very slow so no big rush but any help would be appeciated.
Also where is the best place to buy a new pump, GM list is over $300 bucks.
The pump is quite easy. only 6 10mm bolts. On the passenger side there is a valve to drain the radiator. Open it, but you don't need to drain it completely. Just enough to get the level below the water pump. You'll have to guess because there is obviously no sight window. Remove the serpentine belt, remove the air bridge and anything else in your way. Take out the 6 bolts. remove and replace the water pump. Take out the old gaskets and with at least 2 bolts on each side of the water pump, let the gaskets hang from the bolts. Start them by hand and then start the last one on each side. tighten to 11ft lbs the first time and then 22 the second pass. Fill with 50/50 distilled water and dexcool or compatible coolant. Put serpentine back on, then air bridge and whatever else you took out of your way. AutoZone, O'reilly's or any local parts store should be able to get you a replacement pump.
