While I was at work my wife called me and told me that the alarm went off of the Vette. She took the phone to the garage and sure enough it was going off. Nobody around. She had not even been in the garage all day and the doors were down. I did have the hood up because I just changed the plugs. Has anybody experienced this before? What would cause this? Thanks for the help.
Hi, Was the system armed when it tripped or disarmed?
Below are some reasons for a malfunction. Are any codes tripped?
Some people have reported the the wires that run from the doors to the body have been compromised or shorted intermittently, pull back the boot and check them.
Good Luck +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Most system complaints are linked to faulty wiring and connectors, and occasionally to a component. Perform a thorough inspection of all related wiring and connectors pertaining to the UTD system. Always check for BCM PASS-Key® DTCs first before diagnosing the UTD system.
The following conditions may result in intermittent PASS-Key® or UTD operation with no associate UTD DTCs stored:
Any condition which results in the interruption of power to the BCM.
The battery or ignition voltage is out of range (below 9.0 volts or above 16.0 volts).
A loose or damaged grounds
Door ajar switch open or shorted
An open or a short on the serial data line
HEHE, had a similar situation happen to me last night.
Was drinking at buddies house other side of town when I get a phone call from Mom. Says the car alarm got set off.
Just got the car about 1 month ago... Battery looks new but will take it to buddy to see if it's good or not.
Mom and dad were pressing the buttons on the control but it wouldn't turn off. The sound wasn't like the normal alarm sounds I hear that go beep beep beep beep. This was just going BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP to inifinity...
Told him over phone to turn on the car and the beeeep continued but was the sound was going softer and softer till it just died. Also said it smelled a bit like burned.
Just talked to pops and says the lights weren't blinking either.
I am wondering if the smell was from the horn? I am gonna go check out the car now...
Never had the alarm go off with the car sitting undisturbed, but I have had the alarm go off when I opened the door. Putting the key in the ignition or pressing the remote unlock button shuts it off, but I still have not been able to determine what conditions causes the alarm to trip.
Mine did the same thing friday. Went to the store and left the top down and armed the alarm as a walked away (horn honk to confirm) and came back out after about 10 minutes and it was going off. No cars next to it and nobody around it. I thought maybe I accidently hit the panic button but I was 90 feet from the car so that wouldn't make sense either. I don't think the remote can reach that far.
