My 01 Z06 only has 22K miles. I put ported heads on it this week and today I figured it might be a good idea to check the fuel filter. I removed it and poured the fuel out and tryed to blow thru the inlet side and it was stopped up bad. It was all I could do to blow enough air into it to feel it coming out the outlet side. The new Napa Gold filter I picked up I can blow through easily. I wonder if this could have been a reason my car dyno'd a little lower than I expected after the cam swap?
And how does that work? I think I paid $28 for mine from NAPA.
The filter is also the regulator, cheapest price I've seen it was $42 and on up. Learned all about these when we did Snowbirds LS1 swap. Maybe you just got lucky on price though? There's an obvious difference that you would have noticed if it wasn't like the one you removed. Hard to miss that extra fitting.
FIL3737 is part number I have from the LS1 swap notes.
I was thinking only 97 & 98 models had the fuel return and they shifted to the filter set up in 99. I'm not positive on that but that's how I remember it.
That looks like it, steal of a deal for that price. Might want to put the fuel pressure guage on the rail just to make sure but sure looks like the right one.
its on the frame, i don't remember what side, but its attached to frame near rear tire if i remember correctly.
Better yet here are 2 posts plus the middle link shows pics and tutorial as I just changed mine out last week on my 99. Cajundude is the king on this one!
Oh, despite trying hard not to get fuel all over me I still did. One tip is to make sure you disconnect your fuel rail at the front of the car to release pressure before taking off the filter in the rear. Even though I did that keep in mind the filter contains a fair amount of fuel in it and when you try to get it out your will spill this fuel onto you as you can only see it when you are directly underneath it. I'd recommend using the new little caps that cover the fuel inlets on the new replacement filter to cap off the fuel inlets on your old filter BEFORE you try to get it down from its mounting position. Then remember to keep the outlet side pointing up so that you don't spill out of that side. Enjoy!
