Can anyone tell me what these items are and what effect they have? I am considering buying a C5 that has an open airbox, throttlebody bypass, and air intake funnel, Thanks
Thanks for the info and quick response. I have a fair amount of mechanical knowledge and ability just not much Corvette knowledge. I have been around roundy round cars all my life and have yet to hear the term " air intake funnel" kINDA MAKES ME WONDER WHAT ELSE HE JUNKED UP. Thanks again.
Did a search on all 3 items. Throttlebody bypass; $12.00 part ( coupler and 2 hose clamps) diverts hot engine water from t-body. Open air box; I found an article where a guy cut the fins out of his and made his own. Said he couldn't detect a performance increase but it sounded mean. Did however see where the Z06 has these. Air intake funnel; could not find a C5 application for this. Did see one on a tuner car. It is nothing more than an air duct routed where the air intake is outside the engine bay to avoid underhood heat. Isn't the stock Corvette air intake already routed to the nose?

You pretty much got it .... the throttle body bypass is as you found ... just bypasses coolant from flowing through the body of the throttle ..... open air box .... basically most people mean they cut larger openings in the box that holds the air filter .... and an intake "funnel" ??? some kind of adaptation to the air intake,
The "stock" C5 air filter is located in the nose of the car. It draws air from the underhood area, so a modification generically called a CAI (Cold Air Intake) is often installed. Popular ones are the Vararam and the Blackwing. Sounds like whoever was modding this Corvette was doing it "cheap" .... if you are looking at this car to buy it I'd be very leary of the level of care it has had ... if the guy is that cheap he may have scrimped on oil change items (using a cheaper oil than the synthetic that GM recommends) and other maintenance items.

These are not well thought out or useful mods. Follow Elmer Fudd's advice and look at the car "vewy vewy carefully" .
Never heard of this air "funnel". Maybe he is talking about a smooth air coupling versus the original accordian connecting the airbridge to the throttle body. Anyhow, you car is "stock" for all intents and purposes. A cut airbox lid certainly dosen't hurt anything.
none of those mods make the car a lemon. what does the rest of the car look like ? I have a TB bypass on my car now and have had an open air lid in the past with no bad results.
