Got a PC installed in my C5
After a ton of work I finally got a PC installed in my vette. I've been thinking about doing this for about 2.5 years now.
I'll try to get some pics up soon.
I used a dremel and cut out the ashtray and moved the AC controls down there. Installed a Nakamichi in dash 6 disk CD player where the AC controls were and installed a Clarion VRX610 flip out screen where the stock CD player was.
Got a mini book PC from http://www.tigerdirect.com. It's really tiny. 1Ghz Celeron with 128mb ram and 10 gig HD, comes with a CD-ROM. Have a DVD drive on order. Installed Windows XP.
For GPS I bought Co-Pilot 2002. Really slick, voice controlled and voice response. Tonight I'm going to connect the audio out on the PC to the AUX input on the Nakamichi. Also have Autotap installed on the computer, I just haven't connected the cable yet.
So for less than $2k I have a complete PC with Navigation, Autotap, 1300 MP3s. Also bought a data cable to connect my Nokia phone to the computer so I can connect to the internet (at 14.4k!) so I can pull weather and traffic reports.

I to have been thinking about this for 3 years. I would really like to see the pics. Also how much did you pay for the monitor.

That was me at mp3car.com. That's the machine. I'm having problems with my server. I think I have another place I can post them to. I'll try to do it tonight.
The screen was about $675. 1 DIN in size, flips out.

I still need to put a box around this thing to cover the PC and wires.

How does that ARM Mini-PC handle shock? Do you have it suspended or on something that won't allow it to take the full jolt from abnormal road conditions? Seems like the harddrive might have some problems eventually.
It's a laptop harddrive, which are really strong. Most new HD's now adays are rated for some serious G's. I might put a piece of foam under it, who knows.
Also dynomated almost the entire car last weekend. Start to finish this is a lengthy project.
I have ordered a laptop power supply that takes 12V DC input and outputs 16-21V at 64W. It works now, I just wanted to provide it cleaner, more stable power.
