Just got a new alt pulley and decided to use the power of the forum to get the easiest way to pull the old pulley off. Do you need a puller or will the OEM pulley come off with a little tender lovin' prying?
I just removed the nut with an impact, heated it up with a propane torch and used a 2 claw puller with an impact to yank the old one off. The new one didn't fit that tight. It slipped right on.
Depends on which pulley you have. If you have a clutch type alt you will need a special tool to pull the pulley.
Not the clutch type is part of the reason I'm replacing it. I keep having belts climb to the inside of the alt pulley. Checking alignment is harder than it seems....looks good to the naked eye.
Due to my mods I bought a Rev-Extreme billet pulley with higher sides to try and keep it from jumping.
That's why I keep poking around the forum,,,Learn something new ALL THE TIME !!!Been working on/mess'en with cars and bikes for more than 45yrs,,but when it comes to SOME of the newer technology it can be a bit humbling!! Still a lot of the same basic nuts and bolt in there, but a lot of "WIZ BANG" new fangled tech in there. Have a grip on a fair amount of it,but there's ALWAYS a new curve ball here or there!! Keep the info coming!!
