Default Magnacore Plug Wires

Which Magnacore wire is best for a daily driver: the 8mm or the 8.5mm? Also, who has the best price on them?

Go with the MSD, Pt# 32819, $69.95 from the LAPD. 8.5mm super conductor wires, 40-50 ohms per ft of resistance, high electro magnetic interference!

Id like to respectfully disagree with Wallstal.

Heres why:

Stock plug wires are cheap carbon based wires, that break down under heat.

The best wires for the LS1 are the magnecor KV85. They use 200 windings per inch, and dont use coatings on the windings like most other brands to enhance measured conductance (ie little resistance). These coatings break down rapidly and cause EMI and other conductivity issues.

If you buy wires simply based on resistance values you are being completely fooled by a marketing scam. Measuring wires with a volt/ohm meter is a useless measurment, not only because of the coatings on the windings in most wires, but also because when you fire 40,000 volts down a wire, a whole set of different principles take effect, like skin effect. That is when the electrons shear out to a magnetic field at the windings. This cannot be measured by a volt/ohm meter. In fact, a wire thats OHMs out with high values is most often a better wire for spark delivery due to the AC characteristic of the voltage.

Be smart about what is happening. Forget about resistance measurements of spark plug wires for performance metrics.

vettepartz, I emailed you a place to get up the KV85 wires for the LS1 part# 85229 for $69.95

Kewlbrz hits the nail on the head. KV85 Magnecor are the best ignition wires you can reasonably purchase.

We carry the Magnecores also. Its a great wire set.
We had problems with the MSDs. We no longer sell them.
The GM hotwires are good for the money.

I couldn't find a forum Vendor who carries Magnecor wires and NGK TR-55's. I ordered them today from Thunder Racing: $69.99 for the KV-85's and 1.95 per plug. Same-day shipping.

Jim

Seriously, you will not see any difference on the dyno, from stock. The other may last longer, but you ain't going any faster! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Nate, I didn't see them either. That's why I went ahead and ordered the MSD wires from LAPD so I can support a forum vendor. The magnecore wires are probably better, but I didn't want to support a non-supporting vendor...especially if there were to be a problem with the product I have faith that a supporting vendor would take better care of me rather than a non-supporting vendor.

Thats the beuty of thier microscopically wound windings at 200 per inch. The tightly would windings shield against EMI, and dont need the coatings for "enhancment" (which is temporary), and reduction of EMI.

I used Taylors before, and as I put miles on them they began getting EMI. When I tried gently pulling them off, many of them fell apart, and i did use silicon grease on the connection points. The magnecors have been on longer, and are still working exceptionally.

Like Walstal said, Wires dont create horsepower, they just prevent you from loosing any, while at the same time quality wires dont induce EMI. :)

When I first dynoed my T/A, the dyno operator pointed out a lot of jaggedy, up and down movements on my curve. He (John Sealock owner of Woodbridge Dynotech) said that the cheap GM wires were most likely causing the problem. I got the Magnecores and NGK and my problems were solved. Funny thing was the car pulled much smoother throughout the rpm's. Also while idling at a light the rough idle I had grown used to totaly disappeared. I would recommend these wires to anybody. You may not see any gains on the dyno but you WILL notice a smoother running engine.
