Yesterday I was taking the vette out and when I released the emergency brake there was a grinding/clicking sound as I lowered the brake lever. The next time I set the brake it locked, but I got the same grinding/clicking noise again as I released it. Now the brake will not lock at all. It feels like there is tension on the lever when I pulled it up, like the brake is engaging but just not locking. I'm not sure where to look for a problem, under the car or under the console. Any avice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I never got a response for my questions, so I took things into my own hands. I'm writing this just in case someone else has this problem and does a search.
To get to the parking brake assembly you have to remove the front console, the center console, and the passenger seat. I'm sure there are write ups on how to do all that so I wont get into it. There are 3 size 40 torque screws and an electrical connection to get loose to access the back side. You can not get into this assembly. The two halfs are welded together.
What I found was the metal rod that runs from the release button back to whatever it attaches to was broke off or came loose. I could not find anyway to fix it, so I bought a used one off the bay for $125. A new one was around $200. If anyone needs any other information about this, shoot me a PM. I'll be gald to help.
