Default Help with codes

My check engine light came on so I looked up the codes and I have P0172 and P0175(which is rich bank 1 and 2). Also a TSC c1286 which is steering sensor malfunction. I'm assuming the first 2 are because of running 60lb injectors but the last one I have no clue. Anybody shed some insight for me?

SEARCH is your friend ......

Your Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) needs replacing .... there are a ton of posts on replacing it ....

Seach on my username "BlackZ06"and "SWPS" using ADVANCED SEARCH in the toolbar above (Dark red bar above) .....

i got the same two last night coming back from the track. Cars wants to sputter and stumble. It appears to be something with the MAF and air getting into the engine without the MAF know it. Remedies seems to be everything from dirty air filter, leaking vacuum lines, dirty sensor. I am starting with the first 2 and going from there. Hope this helps. There are a couple of other threads with people with this issue if you search. Hopefully more people will chime in.

First place I'd look is the ducting between the MAF and the Throttle Body. Bet you have an air leak there ......

You can find out if there is a leak by spraying carb cleaner around your inlet connections while the car is running. If it stumbles, then you have a leak.

I love this forum. That is exactly where it was. 10 min and a screwdriver and it is all fixed. I at least have a can of carb cleaner now . Thanks man.

Gotta love those "fixed it with a screwdriver" problems .....

Will it hurt anything to drive the car with the swps bad. Also I ahve not had an alignment since I bought the car 10 months ago. I also had the rack out to install a cam and blower kit. Do you think it could be an alignment issue? The first 2 codes are from a air leak by the MAF? I'll check that out. Thanks for the help!

It will effect two systems with a bad SWPS .....

* Magnasteer - The EBCM uses the input from the SWPS as one factor in determining how much "assist" the power steering system provides.

* Active Handling (option JL4) also uses the SWPS as a "key" component in determining when and how to intervene. Some people have had sudden brake applications while driving because of bad SWPS data.

It is possible that a bad alignment will trigger this code. Certainly you should get the car aligned correctly .... if nothing else you are wasting money by wearing your tires prematurely.

The two "rich" engine codes are probably caused by the too large injectors .... assuming you have not told the PCM about them. You need to either get some tuning software, or take the car to a tuner, and get the PCM tables updated to reflect those HUGE injectors.

For the P0172 go here to see what the Service Manual shows for this code ....the P0175 is for the other side of the engine.

Hopefully the alignment will get rid of the C1286 ...... keep us posted.
