The tilt wheel in my 2002 is stuck in one position ~ happened once before, and the shop said the 'pin' (?) was just stuck.
Well, it's done it again, and I can't figure out the mechanism ~ where the pin is, and what it takes to un-stick it...
Any help?
Thanks!
I'm going to assume the "pin" is the "guide pin" for the "tilt spring".
If you don't have access to the Service Manual, I'd recommend you take the car to a dealer or a shop with Corvette experience. The steering column contains the driver's airbag and working around the airbag witout safely disabling it is hazardous. Also the tilt spring is a hefty spring and has to be removed/installed with care.
Hi, fwiw I had the same problem once. The wheel was stuck in the up position, and the lever felt like it was disengaged. After a few minutes of playing with the lever I got mad at it and smacked it around a bit, grabbed it and shook it up and down as I was playing with the lever, then I telescoped it in and out a bit and shook it up and down some more, about a minute of this and it gave up and went back to operating properly. Haven't had the problem since. If it's the wheel stuck and won't turn, shake it back and forth as you turn the key and it will free up.
Good Luck
