What exactly is meant when a TC locks up? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I read that you can have the PowerloaderII lock up the converter in 3rd and 4th, if this is true, would it be worth it to do with a stock TC?

Thanks
In simple terms...your A4 is putting more rearwheel horsepower down...imagine a non-locked up torque converter as a clutch that is never fully engaged. The stock converter can not handle it under WOT, but it does lock up under partial throttle...ever feel what seems like a 4th shift around 50ish MPH? That's the stocker locking up.
Advantages are more efficiency and better MPH like the M6s get. Disadvantages are under WOT it is hard on the converter and the tranny. If the converter is locked up too soon the car will bog and actually slow down in the quarter.
Thanks guys. I understand the lock-up thing now. So, can you lock-up the TC through the PCM in 3rd and 4th? Can you feel the difference when it locks up or is it just noticeable on a dyno or timeslip?

You really can feel the difference.
You can lock up tha TC with a siple switch also (like me), but I would only recommend it on a Vigilant.
On a SY 3500 for example you will feel no difference if you lock it up as this TC is very efficient as is.
