New noise
Car developed a "whistle" type noise when cold. It seems to rise and fall with the shift change, but goes away when the car is warmed up. Seems to be coming from the front of the engine. Any thoughts.

The generator (alternator) can make a whistle type noise from the electrical windings. When the engine is cold started and the battery state is low, the generator output is higher and the engine rpm will also be higher all adding up to a high pitch noise you can sometimes hear coming off the generator. Once the vehicle warms up, the battery is up on charge, drawing less current, the engine speed drops to a lower rpm and the noise will seem to go away. Have really no way of knowing if this is what you are hearing, but it is a know noise source, other than the noise annoyance,
