Default 4.10 gear thoughts?

Ive been comptemplating having my differential rebuilt by the same shop thats rebuilding my transmission. Its going to come out way cheaper than buying one prebuilt.

where is a good spot to buy the ring and pinion online?

Im really curious to find out what everyone thought about the swap? Im running a 99 M6(3.47) with 410WHP and the change will be 4.10s..

Does it make the car a good bit faster? Im not concerned about it lowering top speed, but what will the car top out at?

Go for it, unless you plan on doing anything like FI or nitrous in the future. For a mild to medium built M6 car, they're great! Once you get too much power they are a bit much, as your first and second gears pretty much become useless.

I run 4.10s with 550rwhp and spray and the gears are awesome. Mine tachs out in forth running the 1/4 on spray but is perfect on motor. you should be fine and probably the best gear for your setup.

Default Love my 4:10's

I love my 4:10's. They make 6th useable at speeds under warpdrive.

I currently have 487 RWHP if that matters.

Best place to get ring and pinion is Jawsgear. Great service. Make sure your shop is qualified to rebuild the differential, since setting up the rear requires some special measuring tools.

The top speed of the car won't be appreciably affected.

they make your car accellerate more quickly.

4.10 turns to 1 vs. 3.42/1 i believe.

someone else who knows this stuff will chime in.

Seems to be a lot of threads right now on gears and everybody is pretty much raving about the 4:10's.

I love my 4.10s. They will make your car accelerate like a banshee in 1st thru 4th. You should pick up 3-4 tenths as long as traction is good. They are perfect for a bolt-on to medium build car as others have said. I would not recommend them for a car with 500+ rwhp for 2 reasons: Traction will become a problem and then once you solve the traction problem you run a higher risk of breaking teeth because 4.10s are a weaker gear with smaller teeth. That's not to say it can't be done, there are plenty of high hp cars with 4.10s, 4.30s, 4.56s out there. Some of those people make them last by not ******* it every weekend and some of those people understand that they are going to obliterate their gears every so often.

For you: Go for it! My 2 cents.

I just picked up my car today form the tuner/mech. one of the mods was the 4.10 gear its great. One of the best mods,go for it. The car ran a 12.17 1/4 time with stock runflats and him driving, this car is nasty. What a ride home from the track.

I have a 2002 LS1 Coupe 6 speed. I have 525 RWH I run 4:10 gears.
I don't think you will have any problems with a 4:10 ratio. I bught my through Summit Racing online catalog. Hey make sure you buy the correct installation kit also. If you are going to do it do it correct don't cut corners. I also changed the input shaft to a hardened shaft. I bought my from Ecklers. I paid almost $400.00 but it's worth it.

Good Luck
Dennis

I trust your primary interest is for the track. I think you will run into serious problems hooking up on street rubber. My experience with my C4was that even with 315s it was hard to launch with 4:10s and I wasn't making over 400rwhp. Unless I hit it while rolling I really didn't get a huge benefit until I hit 2nd. If you do closer to 3.73 your 1st gear torque multiplication is close to a C5Z which is well optimized for 1/4 mile racing. With track tires it's a different story of course.

As far as your new top speed with the 4:10s if you can rev out a bit in 6th gear it may be as good or better than now but I think the drop in your final drive ratio will still be too much so you will end up reving out to around 155 in 5th.

with 4.10s,can you still get a nice top speed or does it take away alot of top speed.Im concidering 4.10s just because.Dont need them for anything, but if its going to make the vette more quicker 1st threw 4th, wow thats fast. Now,if i had this done and this mod done only, would i personally feel a differents and see a diff on the speedo when im going from 1st to 4th.
