When I went to cruise-inn this year, I manually calculated my MPG by the number of miles driven, by how many gallons of gas I used.. my DIC said I was getting 28mpg , by my calculations I was really getting 25.6 MPG (with 390 gears btw).
?????
Has nothing to do with gearing, it's based on injector flow rate and % of on time. Everyone knows this calculation is a little optimistic, but it is useful for comparison purposes.

My experience showed ~2mpg difference between 3.42 and 4.10. Mileage often suffers heavily when a go fast mod is added for obvious reasons. I'm sure this small difference is due to the fact that you are now using 6th gear instead of 5th.

4.10's are the way to go on stock or big cam cars IMHO.

Calculated MPG by hand. Over almost 4000 miles so I feel I am pretty accurate.

Best mileage was in Penn from State College to Allentown. Worst was from Pittsburgh to State College Dang mountains...

26.8 total I think, have it written in my 'trip paperwork' somewhere. Also, mileage was better when I drove, the lady liked to pass and I liked to use cruise control.

Anybody that says 4.10s will have you turning high rpms and will kill your gas mileage is either crazy or doesn't have enough experience with them.
Sixth gear will turn 2100 rpms at 75 mph all day long and if your car is close to stock or lightly modded it will still easily get 26-27 mpg. This can be confirmed by hundreds of people including myself(hand checked).

At 407rwhp and 385rwtq I love my 4.10's. Drag radials are a must however, if you plan on hooking. I wouldn't go with anything less than 4.10's at 400-450rwhp, the acceleration is just insane.

That is sort of my thought. Good rubber on good pavement with a skilled launch and the 4.10s are killer. If any of these things aren't there you risk lighting them up and being the victim of the kill. My 02 Viper with fresh 335s actually bit pretty good so I know the torque can be dealt with, but my cammed LT4 is kind of particular when it will give me full value for the gears. I had a stock 03 Z before the Viper and it launched better than either the Viper or the LT4 so I am really partial to stock gears with street rubber. With enough practice and skill I am sure the OP will be able to launch well on a 4.10 set with good rubber. But I never quite worked on it enough to get the optimum launch which is why I kind of lean towards the more forgiving 3.73s

This is correct. I have 4:10's and my car is stock. I would never take it to the drag strip. I love the way it drives now. No bogging when you nail it from the start and it is so easy to take off now and I no longer get that drive line noise. I did not lose any gas mileage around town, still 24 mpg but did lose the 2 mpg on the hwy which I don't drive often. It is so much more fun to drive with the 4:10's. I really don't see a down side unless you are worried about 2 mpg on the hwy. If so get a Prius.
