Default ac/radio problems

I have 2 problems with my ac if anyone has any help. The ac blows cold air so it is working fine. Except about 4 months ago when I would hit the recirculate button the fan would not super speed up. That is the first problem. Then a couple of weeks ago the display that shows the temperature settings started fading out. I have the panel light control on as high as it will go but during the day I can't see the numbers and they are just slightly visible at night. The next problem I have is very weird and the dealer and delco say they have never heard of this. During the hot months of the year after the car sits in the sun for awhile the am radio will only play static. It will not pick up any stations. The fm works all the time. After I park the car in the shade or garage for a while and the car cools down the am radio works fine. Any help on these problems. Thanks, Sam

About all I can help you on is the dim display, you need to resolder the 241 resisitors on the power noard. Do a search for dim display fix. No clue on the recirculate function, is the orange LED lighting up?

Interesting Radio problem! Good luck with that one!

If your inclined to try the fix yourself for the dim display, here's the DIY link. It's fairly involved and requires some soldering skills. Your recirc problem may also be related to a weak solder joint on the circuit board.

If you want to send it off for repair, try this guy:

Last I heard it was like $50 or $75 to repair the board.

As for the AM radio problem:
Maybe check your antenna connections?

I have the same prob. with my A.M. radio on my 98. So your not alone on that one. Do you have the external mast antenna? I do not, and wondered if that is why the prob. exists. Mast antenna's may be better. Not sure what type of antenna there acualy is with this style either. In the "OLD" days it was in the windshield. Not seeing that here though.

Help for the radio problem. Did a search and found this, don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt.

Thanks for taking the time to do the search. I did check the thread out and am about to go "probing around" now.

Default AC Problem Recirc Mode

Hi, The fan does not super speed up when pressing recirc. The air outside mixture door closes to only allow a small percent of outside air into the vehicle. It may sound like the fan speeds up, but in reality it doesn't, Unless in auto mode, then the fan may speed up if the cabin temps are above what is chosen. In manual mode pressing recirc should close outside air door, but fan speed should remain what is chosen. If when pressing recirc you hear no difference in the noise level Your problem is with the Air Inlet Actuator, or vacuum line going to it. The Air Inlet Actuator is located behind the glove box, and pass side dash panels
Description Of Actions Below

EDIT- It is also possible that your bad control board's recirc switch is not activating the vacuum solenoid control valve, which controls the Air Actuator Valve.
Radio Reception- It makes sense that if you have a marginal connection to the rear antenna, that excessive heat will diminish the reception. The hotter wires and connections get, the higher the resistance gets. Check antenna connections for cleanliness and tightness, and putting some dielectric grease on them can help.
Good Luck

Recirc
Press this button to limit the amount of fresh air entering the vehicle. The light on the button will come on to show that the system is operating. Recirc is helpful when you are trying to cool the air quickly or trying to limit odors and just from entering the vehicle. When the system is in the AUTO mode, the system automatically selects Recirc to cool the vehicle's temperature. By pressing this button , the system will lock into the recirculated air mode. Any adjustment to the air intake must then be made manually. The Recirc mode will not operate in the front defrost mode, this helps prevent windshield and window fogging due to moisture in the vehicle.

The recirc mode function operates in the following air delivery modes:

UPPER
LOWER
DEFOG
BILEVEL

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A Typical Hot Weather Example:
The vehicle has been parked all day in hot weather (above 21°C/70°F) and the driver has set the automatic temperature setting to 23°C (73°F). The system will automatically adjust the temperature output to maximum cooling. The fan will start at low speed momentarily to push the hot air to the floor of the vehicle and then go to a higher speed with cold airflow out of the instrument panel outlets. A small amount of airflow will continue through the lower air ducts to cool the floor area.

The air intake may start in the recirculated mode for maximum cooling performance. As the interior of the vehicle cools down to the set temperature, the fan speed will decrease and the temperature output may become warmer. The air intake may shift from recirculation to fresh air mode. If the interior temperature continues to cool down due to a decrease in the amount of heat the vehicle is absorbing from the sun or a decrease in the outside temperature, the system may switch to other air delivery modes (typically BI-LEVEL or DEFOG).
