I'm currently working on a diff/converter swap. I'm replacing the o-ring but should I be using some RTV in addition to this o-ring? I didn't see anything in the service manual about doing this but I have heard that some do this? What did you guys do?
I lubed the O-ring a bit to keep it supple but did not use RTV. No issues at all through 0-100F temp swings and no leaks at all. IMHO, if you try to mask the O-ring failure by trying to seal with RTV, you're putting off the inevitable repair. I would rather know sooner than later if the O-ring is not doing it's job.
I have replaced the diff in both my C5's and neither has a leak anywhere. They are both '02's.

I used dow corning valve and o-ring grease to hold the o-ring in place, as well as for lube. No issues.
