Double roller timing set with front timing cover???
I am having trouble fitting the front timing cover on over the oil pump with the double roller timing set. Is there any secret to make it fit or a new cover to buy? Thanks
some guys have had to machine away a little bit of the inside of the cover in order to get a double roller chain to fit - I simply decided to go w/ a Cloyes chain and not put a double chain on for this reason
fwiw, a lot of those 500rwhp builds are done w/ the LS2 chain, x2 roller is not needed, just my 2c
I agree that they are not NEEDED but I had LME build the shortblock with new cam, timing set, and oil pump and this is the set up they built. No big deal, Ive got it all together now Im just waiting on my heads and intake from Tony Mamo
I never put a double roller on a LS engine before but I have installed a double roller on a GM 3800 V6. You need to make sure the chamfer on the back of the crank gear matches up with the chamfer of the stock one. Sometimes on the 3800’s the crank gear would not go on all the way and would cause rubbing on the oil pump cover and lead to chain failure. After inspection the chamfer was no were close to where it should have been. But milling down the oil pump cover .020” can also get you by.
