Default HVAC Vacuum Problems

Since buying my 98 Coupe A4 last year I never felt my blower was pushing air like I thought it should. I started to do some investigating and found that no matter what mode I selected (floor, dash, defroster) air blew almost evenly through all vents. I have the dual auto climate control system.

After reading numerous posts I new I either had a vacuum problem or that my actuators were not working. I started to looking into the vacuum lines since that seemed like the easier place to start. When I went to pull the battery I found you guessed it, it was leaking. It was a replacement Exide that was in the vehicle. The damage was bad enough that it took me the better part of the day to clean it up etc.. and repaint. The computer was okay but that too needed to be cleaned.

As it turned out there were two problems with the vacuum line both with the vacuum line that goes through the firewall. The line coming from the intake manifold was intact and not effected by the leaking battery.

The first problem with the vacuum line into the cab was that the acid eat way the line about three inches before it went through the firewall. The second problem was that the hose/connector on the check valve was broken off. So now I am trying to find a check valve the connects the intake manifold the vacuum canister and the controls in the dash.

I saw that in another post someone picked one up at Advanced Auto for off I went no luck they couldnt figure it out. So I went to Auto Zone no luck their either.

I looked in my manuals but can't find it there and I hate going to the stealership but I may have no choice. Does anyone know the part number?

I tried attaching a picture but it doesnt seem to work. If you look at this link scroll to post 18 last picture has what it looks like.

Thanks,

Jim

It's a standard vac check valve used in lots of applications from A/C to cruise control. About $5 at the dealer. You can also get the assembly which consists of 4 pieces:the small connector on the canister, the elbow at the bottom, the short tube in the middle, and the check valve, GM #10281311, about $10. Hope that helps. You should be able to find a simple one-way vac check valve at a good auto parts store. Just take the old one in to match it up.

Just curious, were you throwing any codes and if so what were they?

Thanks C5streak for the part numbers, I'll stop at the Chevy dealer in the morning on the way to work. I only need the check valve and not all the connectors. The guys at Advanced or Auto Zone didn't mention a universal check valve. Given the weekend they may have not had their normal (knowledgable) staff on duty.

Dajael I was not getting any codes, everything has been clear. The only ones in history were loss of contact for both left and right side BCM but they are clear now.
