Went to the dyno today with my 2001 Vert, to get a baseline, and then test out the 2002 Z06 intake cover and K&N Filter. Green run is bone stock, others are with the intake cover and filter only. I'm a little sad by the numbers, but, thought I'd share. The car has 2100 miles on it, so maybe it will pick up with some more break-in Looks like I picked up about 3HP above 4500 RPM with the intake, so I'm not sure it is worth much.
It's a little hard to read, but I wanted to keep the size down. The reason why I'm a little sad, is that I'm used to the power of my 95 Z28 to compare it to. Here's an overlay of both my cars:
Comparing heads and cam to a stock motor just isn't fair. Slap a cam in that puppy and do some exhaust work and get a real air box and VOILA! 360+ to the ground for minimal mods.
Anyone have before/after dynos for a 2001 or 2002 stock vs. Blackwing or Vortex intakes?
I've seen posts saying the 2001 and 2002 intakes are already improved, so the improvement with one of these intakes will not be as good as with a 2000 or earlier car. I'd like to know what to expect with a Blackwing or Vortex on my 2001 before plunking down the $$.

Thanks.
The big issue with the stock air box is the neck right before the MAF. Removing the lid will create more power to a point. Get a bottom breather and be done with it.
We did not have a baseline dyno for our car. After we added the Vortex, the dyno was 293 RWHP/310 RWTQ. BPP told me that they were getting 13-17 RWHP on 2001's. Assuming a 20% loss on the A4, stock RWHP is 280, therefore, 293 is in line...not very exciting though. But that is all behind us now. :D

:smash: :smash:  Tony used to be all for stock airbox mods until he installed the VORTEX the other day. It makes a big difference. Cold air DOES rule! Go 4 it!
My MN6 01 put down 328/343 with only a Donaldson. It had to pick up power from stock at that number. The SOTP meter surely picked a considerable amount.

I agree, not sure why so many are wasting money on that 02' Z06 upper
lid. 3 or 4 hp? That is within margin of error.
Did you allow any WOT's, and some miles BEFORE the dyno??........
If you did not, your PCM didn't have time for a re-learn........just a thought.
3-4, IF that's ALL it made, is still 3-4 MORE than you had, and for less than $150.00..........them's cheap ponies............
To answer questions, this is an M6. I know dyno's read different, but this is my "usual" one. As far as margin of error, this has been pretty repeatable. I took a few more runs (not on the graph) and they showed the same HP for 2001 lid vs no lid.
I didn't expect much from the lid, so it doesn't bother me too much that it only gained 3-4, I was just hoping bone stock I could pull more than 291 RWHP. For $100 total, on the lid cover, what more could I want?
As far as the computer learning goes, the car did not have time to relearn as I was strapped on the dyno. But, for the record, unless GM has changed things (my computer knowledge is from my 95 f-body) the car DOES NOT learn at WOT. The computer takes what it learned at part throttle and applies that to WOT.
That works out to about $30 for each extra horse (I paid $100 for my lid and K&N). While not a huge improvement how does that compare to other mods if comparing cost to HP gain?
Many of us are not comfortable with some of the potential side affects of mod's. I know of a few members in my club that after modding their cars wouldn't idle, surged and lost fuel mileage. Of course the dealer won't touch those problems.
z28, I disagree, drive it dog slow around town, and regular granny speeds.....not reving to redline, and see how quick your cat get's sluggish.......it does KNOW if you drive fast, or SLOW........and the PCM will readjust accordingly.......
Just for grins, (if you have ready access to the dyno) drive it like you stole it), and do another pull.......see if you gain a couple of more that way......
I am bringing in the one from West Coast Corvette,, with the K & N, this lid is about 8"sx12"s, opened up..........I bet it will add at least 10, and be as good as a Vortex or a T1 halltech.....for $135.00 total, it's worth a try...... :yesnod:
Thanks for posting. It's good to see objective measurements on a dyno rather than the usual SOTP comments. It would be great to see for other intakes as well.
