Has anyone ever painted there stock intake and if so how did it come out. Also if this can be done what paint do you reccommend. Pis would also be useful. THANKS.
I think Chip did his own. His forum handle is Willfulone and his vendor site is CCA on the left column. Here's a link to his website with a picture of his engine bay.
I use white Krylon as a base and then paint over it with just about anything, Hi Temp paint works the best. I have also used a clear plastic primer and then used hi temp paint.
Curious.....does the paint cause the intake to retain any heat?
Not sure if its much different with the plastic intake but back in the old days we would always paint the bottom with white paint to reflect heat away from the intake and either leave the top raw or paint it black to dissipate heat . Since these plastic ones are suppose to run cooler to begin with I don't think it would matter. I did mine the old way white on the bottom but did do a color on top, but never checked to see if there was any difference .
Used Duplicolor on mine. My intake barely gets more than just warm to the touch....never hot! I followed some detailed instruction from ls1tech.com. Prep is the most important step. Good luck!
