Default MGW shifter installed!

Not to beat a dead horse here, but after reading about every shifter in the world on this site, I ordered my MGW last week with the race ****. The install was beyond easy with the write ups I have read on here, and the installation CD that was included. I was worried about the "stiffness" between gates that I had read about, but it was not nearly as bad as expected. The install took about 20 minutes and I swear from all of the info I had read on here, it felt like I had changed about 10 of these, there were no surprises. So, here is what I think..

The shifter feels literally like a race shifter. The gears are no longer hard to find, just takes an adjustment from me to realize that I don't have to push so hard, and the throw is so short, I have to stop pushing past being in gear.

The gates are so close it is not noticeable, and I think I am doing a 2-1 shift when trying to do a 2-3, but the shifter always goes 2-3 without any effort on my part, it is a fluidlike movement.

Reverse is actually easier to find now. Yes, it is stiffer, but most of the effort is coming from me trying to push farther than is needed to get to reverse. I can't believe it is such a short motion to get there.

While the effort to shift is harder than stock, I expect time and mileage to take care of this. It is not hard per se, but noting like the marshmallow that came out of the car.

The race **** will take some getting used to since I am used to resting my hand on top of the stock ****, and this one is not as soft, but I think I can live with that.

All in all, the shifter is absolutely awesome, I couldn't be happier with the product. It isn't the cheapest shifter in the world, but I think it would survive a nuclear war. Thanks to everyone here for helping me make a great decision.

After putting some mile on it now, I can say that I love it even more now. I have missed first gear twice, but it was just from laziness. The shifter is loosening up and I think will be perfect in another month or so. I have noticed a tiny (and I do mean tiny) bit of noise from the shifter at certain RPM's, but it is nothing compared to my old Ripper. My only problem now is that my timing is off, and I have messed up the 3-4 shift by shifting before I get the clutch pedal to the floor. The throw is so much shorter, it threw my timing off. I can live with that though, it is a great product.

Please post your thoughts if you do change shifters. I have a Hurst as well and have thought about switching too.

I installed the new MGW short throw over the weekend and after a couple of days, it seems to be great - it's very short and precise. As a female driver, I have read that it may be too strong to shift, but I haven't found it a problem. I also went with MGW's shifter ****. Very pleased with the new additions!

MGW does quality. If I ever switch from the C6Z, it'll be for one from George.

Does the mgw shifter have a mechanism to center the shifter side to side or does it rely on the transmission to do that? My stock shifter is so vague I have trouble knowing what gear I'm in.
