Yup I experienced it last night and I was pissed. I was cruising home late last night and once I made a left turn bamm the needle drops to E and the check gauge light came on and I was like. I parked her in the garage and jumped on here and did my searching to see what causes it and how to fix it . Fast forward to late in the afternoon today and I go grab 5 gallons of Chevron gas(I was using Shell) a 6 pack of Corona 1 sparks and 2 minis of Patron and head to Checker. I couldn't find any seafoam so I grabbed a big thing of Chevron gas treatment(11 bucks) some STP gas treatment(.89 cents) and a bottle of Lucas fuel cleaner(forgot how much). So I get home and take my 2 shots of Patron, cracked open a beer and threw in all the additives in the tank. I fired up the car and let her run for 2 mins while I slammned my beer down and cracked open the Sparks(orange label). I threw in the 5 gallons of Chevron 91(best we have here) and started her up again and sat outside to finish my Sparks. I finished off the Sparks and went inside to get some limes and cracked open another Corona. I walk back out to the garage feeling pretty good and look at the gas gauge and BOOM 3/4 of a tank!!! So hopefully she won't do it again and I will only use Chevron from now on. I love this forum

Well I just went and added more gas and it went back up so I'm thinking it's just one tank when it gets to about 1/4 low, Is there a vfaq or how to on cleaning it? I'm hoping the sock is just dirty if not I'll just get a new unit and do it myself.
If you do the work yourself, it could be an inexpensive repair.
See Bill Dearborn's post #10 in this thread: Bad fuel level sender or too much sulphur? http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2014898
Follow the diagnostic guide methodically and you will find the smoking gun.
Good luck and be sure to let us know how it turns out.
Ok, can I ask a question in your thread? My gauge is seeming to stick on Full and not moving. I just added a 20 gallon tank size treatment of Techron fuel treatment. They had Seafoam, but I will wait to see if this helps. How much can you realistically add before burning an injector or causing damage? They were on special for 2 for 12 bucks (yeah, that is like 10 dollars off), so I bought two, but I am worried to add both of them. Thanks
Drive it around for a bit and see if the gas gauge goes down. I don't know how much you can put in before it hurts anything but I just added a bottle of seafoam a while ago on top of what I added yesterday and no issues so far.
Same thing happened to me on the drive home from buying my C5. I used some techron and have been using shell gas ever since with no problems...but I do have two more bottles of chevron ready to go just in case.
I had the gas gauge issue since Labor Day of last year. I believe BP gas to be the culprit. Seafoam, Techtron didn't work. Read every post on the Forum on this subject. Met up with an extremely knowledgable Corvette guy who had me "re-boot" the car. Removed negative battery cable overnite. Two refills and no problems (yet). Now it's on to figure the "Pull Key" issue.
I have had the problem for 3 months now ,when I first start her up the gauge works fine for the first 15 min. or so then every time it dies, tried Techron, seafoam for several tanks and no help, someone here said they took the tank ground strap loose and cleaned it and that may be the problem, even had pictures on how to do it,did a serch and can't find it .Can anyone help find the posting?
Mine was having that problem but it wouldnt happen til I hit about 1/4 of a tank, everytime, never failed. I just drove the crap out of it went through 3 or 4 tanks of treated fuel, like you are doing, and it stopped, its been three years and hasn't come back....
It's a pita but give the additives time to work, couple tanks full. You also know you can clear the code and the gauge returns right? After awhile you get pretty fast at clearing that code and going about your business.
It seems to be working for me, the Techron went in, and the gas gauge isn't sticking on Full anymore. We'll see after a few tanks, but I will run the next bottle through it also, just to be safe. Thanks guys

Good luck on cleaning that tank out.
Didn't know that.
