Basically the difference in price is more than likely contract negotiation. I've seen this happen time and time again. No one can really tell the difference between the 04's and 08's on the road so you might as well get the 08's!
THere you go, from the mouth of the legend himself.
If sales of the 04 Z06 shocks continue, it will be from people who didn't read this thread!

Maybe not on the road, but I guarantee you there are a number of members here that could tell the difference at a race track. I can assure you that there is a NOTICEABLE difference just between the 2001 Z06 shocks and the 2004 Z06 shocks. I have no doubt that I could tell the difference between the C5 and C6 shocks at the track, and I would bet some "spirited" street driving (albeit illegal) would allow me to tell the difference.
Remember that the 2004 Z06 shocks were "tuned" by GM test drivers at the Nurbergring race track, and are tuned for the C5 Z06 chassis, weight distribution, spring rates, roll bars, etc.
The C6 Z06 shocks were also "tuned" by GM test drivers at that same German track. They are tuned for that cars chassis (which is aluminum), weight distribution, spring rates .... etc.
As I said in an earlier post in this thread, the C6 shocks are probably a better buy for the street .... but make no mistake the 2004 C5 Z06 shocks are the best OEM shocks for a C5 Z06 going to the track.
It is my understanding C6 Z06 shocks will not work on a C5 that has been lowered. Is this true?

Roger,
I think there was a concern on this because it was reported that the C6 Z06 shocks were slightly longer than C5 stock, uncompressed. However, now some are reporting that when compressed the C6 Z06 shocks are a little shorter. Not sure which is true, but I have not seen many reports of issues with the C6 Z06 shocks on lowered cars. Just be careful when lowering, going too low can cause handling issues, like bottoming out the shocks. If you find it driving poorly, raise it back up some. And be prepared to do alighnments.
I have not lowered mine, but I loved the C6 Z06 shocks they are great all around. And, while Black Z06 maybe able to tell the difference, I loved the C6 Z06 on the road race track.

They work fine as long as you're lowering and not slamming. You can most likely get away with cut bushing on the front and possibly slightly longer bolts on the rear but this could depend on the road conditions in your area.
When I held the C6Z06 shocks and old C5 base shocks compressed side by side the C6Z06 shocks were definitely shorter. I could not hold them both compressed and measure at the same time but it looked to be between 1/4" and 1/2" shorter.

Never had a problem, my car is lowered. I agree there's 1/4 inch or so difference, the 6's are longer, but I couldn't tell the differnce compressed, it was hard to do both at the same time.
Out of the 8 inches or so of shock travel at ~30 deg angle, if 1/4 inch makes the difference the stock shocks wouldn't have worked either.
I doubt the wheels would even turn unless you tubbed out the wheel wells.
Out of curiosity has anyone ever or ever herd of someone bottoming out their shocks?

Just finished installing Z06 sway bars today, front and rear, so everything’s done, lowered, shocks, and sway bars...only it's raining cats and dogs here, so, can't go for a test drive yet, probably not till tomorrow...
I have the Bilstein Sports on a lowered base suspension car and bottom too often in front. Does anyone know the differences between these shocks (lengths, valving, etc.) compared to the Sports?? Looking for a better set-up without going to coil overs.
Considering QA1 or Pfadts adjustables. Input appreciated!!
