was lookin in the for sale section...seen for 97 98s theres a replacement filter on one of the GM part places but for the 99-04 its fuel filter/pressure regulator...on the 99 up can you not just replace the fuel filter?
...(snip)...on the 99 up can you not just replace the fuel filter?
No, for your model year 2002 car, you will need to replace the complete fuel filter/regulator assembly.
There were 3 different style fuel filters for the C5s of which I'm aware. For model years '97 and '98, the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator were separate with the fuel pressure regulator up by the engine on the fuel rail and the filter located on the car's driver side frame rail, just in front of the left wheel well. For model years 1999 through 2002 and partway through 2003, the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator were one assembly also located on the car's driver side frame rail, just in front of the left wheel well. Then part way through model year 2003 with introduction of the redesigned FFS fuel system, the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator were moved inside the left fuel tank as part of left fuel sender assembly which also includes the fuel pump, fuel strainer and left fuel tank level sensor.
thanks so it is just a filter whats everybody else talking about having to replace the regulator as well
Im sure it would all make sense if i seen it
For your 2002 the pressure regulator is "part of" the "filter" ..... which is why the "filter" is retail priced at $99.50 (GM part number 10299146).
If you want to learn more about the fuel system .... here's a write-up on the newer FFS system .... but your 2002 system works pretty much the same way ... FFS internalized some piping and components that are external on a 2002 system ... but otherwise it works the same way. When the page opens you have to scroll down for the start of the article ....
also Auto Supply shops such as Napa Auto Parts carry the part (Napa part number is FIL3737 at http://www.napaonline.com .... the filter is strangely considered a carburetor "related" part) .... Pep Boys .... Kragen ..... check with your local "trusted" parts house.
Specifically see the last post at the end of that thread from me which lists 3 links w/ all the details. The 2nd link has pics for you which I found very helpful.
Also, I found the NAPA filter to be as good a price as you'll get.
Keep in mind you're going to stink like fuel for a 1/2 day or so, hard to avoid. Great time to stop smoking too if you do!

Go to O'Riellys and pick up a Wix Gold version for about $45 or so. Napa also sells the same version. This is what I am using in my 1970 LS6 conversion. Works like a champ The same filter is used in our 02 Z06.
theyre cheap get them at autozone they come in sets...all different sizes...theyre plastic, you slip it around the hose and slide it into the the connection where the 2 lines meet and it opens up the ring connecting the 2 parts and you just pull them apart.....Wala
