Default LS1 Gear Drive

Just found this, made by Diecrest in Australia. Interesting that they have a Torrington on both sides of the cam retainer plate.

I've read where the LS1 cam sometimes has a tendency to 'walk' forward and rub against the cam plate. This setup would literally lock the cam in place.

FWIW, I've had my cam plate out three times. I never saw any evidence that the cam made contact with the plate.

Bob, I've heard that gear drive setups can play havoc with knock sensors. Is there any info regarding this setup with them?

They are saying it is quiet but the jury is still out. A few guys on the Australian boards are going to try it. I thought it was an interesting design and the use of the double Torrringtons caught my eye as well as the way the cam gear installs as two pieces with full adjustability. I will stick with the chain though.

Hi vettenuts -

Interesting.

I had a friend with a nice built late 70's silverado, and he had a Pete Jackson gear drive.

It sounded like the truck had a supercharger on it when he would pull in.

I am not sure what the real benefits are, but it is interesting.

Thanks for the post.

best regards -

I'm very interested in this,...as I have been wanting a geardriven LS1 for years.

Jesel makes a badass beltdrive setup as well but, requires machinging,...as well as some other changes.

Benefit would be a more positive contact area, and no possibility of chain breakage....which, speaking from experience, sucks.

..thinking...the KNOCK sensors are gonna really pick up on the added noise from this style system...
