Default Demo Mode fix?

Here's one for the electrical gurus out there. When the C5 door is opened, the courtesy lights come on as well as the instrument cluster lights. This is called the "demo mode". My problem is this...All the lights work ok except the instrument cluster light. The inst lights work fine with the light switch. There is no setting in the DIC to correct this and I have the Factory service manual and can't find any mention of this feature. Anybody have an idea where to look to correct this problem?

The "Demo Mode" is part of the feature of the Inst Cluster.

My original 97 cluster did not do demo mode lights (maybe was broken too?). There was no "demo mode"

When I replaced it for a newer HUD unit, "demo mode" started. At first I thought something was wired wrong because the lights would stay on for a bit after I shut the door. Then I realized they were on a timer.

So I would say something is broken internally on the circuits of your inst cluster.

Thanks for that insight.
I remember looking at the 97s when they were introduced and they DID have the demo mode. Perhaps you are right...something is broken.

I read a letter to the tech guy in Corvette Fever magazine with a similar problem (his demo was on all the time) and the reply was that there may be a bad connection in the wiring plug on the cluster.. How do I access that? Remove the whole works? (I hope not).

Yeah you're going to have to pull it, but the harness is long enough that you can place the IPC on the floor and play around with it...
