Default Oil Sensor Trouble?

Not sure what's going on with my car right now. I'm having trouble clearing the "Low Oil" message and the dipstick is currently showing "full." It did get to the "add" indicator on the dipstick. Did a quick search and could not find any related issues.

With the price of Alberta crude... someone is likely stealing your oil...

I have the same problem...
I bought a new low oil sensor $20 ish at the dealer

When I put the headers on my car I found that the wires on the low oil sensor had the insulations totally melted off by the heat if the stock manifolds.,..

Interesting.......what are you running for headers? You might be on to something.

The problem with burned insulation was with the stock exhaust manifold.

I'm now running American Racing Headers.

I have to get the Vert up on a friends 4 post to see if the melted wiring is back again ... I bought the sensor since it was so cheap and I have 116K miles on the '01....
SO i think the original sensor has done its job and can be retired either way....

Bvette2000

Sounds like the oil level sensor is failing ....

It is located in the rear right of the oil pan .....

GM part number 12603782

torque spec for installation is 115 INCH/lbs

GM list price is $21.87

You can get it cheaper from these guys ..... ($12.96 plus shipping) ....

Change it out the next time you have an oil change.

Guys, I can't thank you enough - I'm currently on vacation (Bowling Green actually). I'll see if I can get it changed here and an oil change after the sensor is replaced.
