I live in central NJ and am in need of assistance from some of my Corvette Brothers. I own a 99 Convertible Corvette with to many mods to list. At present I am having problems with something as simple as the removal of the Mass Air Flow Screen. When I removed the screen the change in air flow has sent the computer into a tail spin. The car has been rendered un-drivable. As soon as I start the car and drive a few feet it bogs down and the Message Center is reading “Loss of Engine Power“. I have been told I need a MAF Translator including a laptop and scanning software. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good performance shop in the area that could help or maybe someone has one in their possession and would like to get together on a weekend to try and solve this problem. I would be willing to pay for assistance and the cold beer is on me.
Please I’m begging you. I cant stand to see this awesome car sitting in my garage every day instead of out burning up the road.
My e-mail is RMNewJ@aol.com I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.
Hi,
I am in Central Jersey, Farmingdale to be exact. No promises, but I will lend a hand. E-mail me your phone # and maybe we can set something up. If I can't fix it I will set U up with someone that can. :)

Ouch! :cry Sorry to hear about your problem. It sounds like the other guys in the forum have posted more helpful assistence than I can provide so all I can offer is moral support! I was thinking about removing the screen on my car as well, but haven't gotten to it yet. Let us know how you make out
Have you tried re-installing the MAF screen to see if things return to normal? Thought I'd ask...
I have a spare MAF with the screen still installed, if you want you're more than welcome to try swapping out and see if it helps, maybe one of the wires inside yours got damaged during the scvreen removal. I'm putting the MAF with screen back in the car before it goes back to the dealer in a couple of weeks, you could try my screenless MAF too just to see if it's your MAF or a tuning problem. I'd be willing to help ya check it out, just drop me an email. I don't have autotap, but have access to a Snap-On scanner.
Mike if RMNEW wants to come to your place then I will come down as well as I need to make adjustments on my MAFT as per John R. I will be calling you today.
RMNEW,
You should take up Mike on his offer. He has a spare MAF that can be tested on your car. You probably hurt one of the sensors while removing the screen.
I just wanted to say thanks to the whole New Jersey Corvette community that responded to my request for help. It's great to know there are so many of us out there ready to lend a hand. I sent an e-mail out to Mikie C and I am waiting for a call. Red98C5 and Tabbruzz hope to see you all soon thanks for the reply.
I've only owned my '00 for a couple months and am getting ready to begin making some mods. I have read many differing opinions on removing screen,
and would be very interested about hearing how you made out. If there are any South Jersey C5 owners with the SLP Loudmouth exhaust installed I'd
like to come and hear it.

Mike called RMNEWJ and is waiting for a call back. We are trying to set it up for this Saturday morning around 9:30-10:00am. I will be going to Mike's house anyway to try to get my car tuned better to remove some of my KR. I believe Dennis might go to Mike's as well, if he's not busy.....Should be cool!
I have a MAFT but I do not think that is your problem. It sounds like you may have damaged the MA thin wire when you removed the screen. Let us know when you are getting together with Mikie and Dennis (both great guys) and maybe we can all get together. I may be working this comming Sat so I may not be able to make it.
