I used to autocross my 85 and now run a 97.

The c-4 is like a horse drawn charriot. Sure you can get some awfully strong horses and hook up to it, but it's still a charriot.

I'm Not sure but I thik Eisenhower even owned a charriot at one time, maybe rode it to school?

[QUOTE=seawolf;1566129072] ...and the dash is at least unique in the c-4 as opposed the c-5 dash being an almost exact copy of my Avalanche. [QUOTE]

C5 released in 1997, Avalance released in 2001. How is your C5's dash a copy of a dash from a truck that hasn't come out yet?

No kidding.
Besides, the dash of my 02 Avalanche looks nothing like my 04 vert.
Oh, wait, they both have a speedo, tach, volt meter, gas gauge, maybe that's what he meant?

Back to the OP:

1. C5 is much stiffer than C4, esp. when the tops are out. This lets the C5's base suspension be much softer and the car still handle really well.
2. Introduction of LSx engine. Most everyone believes the LSx engine is a significantly better design than the LT1/4. LT1/4 can make a bunch of power, I'm considering the stock setup. Much easier to work on (ever changed an Optispark? I've got a '94 LT-1 Z28, which has to be the high mark for "difficult to work on" ). Better power (stock), better efficiency, and at least as reliable.
3. Move the transmission to the rear of the car. Improves weight distribution, but makes clutch/tranny/diff work much more difficult. Call this one a draw.
4. Ergonomics. Those three huge beams GM had to put in the C4 when the engineers were directed to change out the T-tops for a targa top make entry/exit a real pain, especially for your date in a dress. C5 is much better (IMO) in this area.

When my wife and I were looking for our first Vette, I drove a C4 and C5 back to back. I took her for a drive in the C5 (not the one we got), and when we started to take the C4 out, she said "don't bother".

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

you just have to drive one. i have an lt4 and im in the market for a nice c5 z06. ive had 3 c4s, good cars for what they are, mine still runs pretty strong. but no comparison between the two. c5 is a better platform altogether.

I never owned a C4 but enjoyed driving one back then, but when I look under the hood, I am reminded that you can, in fact, stuff 10lbs of **** in a 5lb bag. Then I saw a ZR1. Holy crap! I would hate to have to perform any major work on either of those. Working on the C5 engine is not difficult at all. Tranny swaps are a PITA though.

there's a huge difference in quality from the earlier c5 to the mid late generation c5.

Electrical, block, heads, cam, intake manifold, interior fit, feel, and finish.....

all got better as time progressed, esp after the 01 z06 came out.
