A friend has a C4 I have a C5 (03 Z/06)He asked just what improvemen ts/differences between the two, were all of the improvements made when the c5 was introduced? If improvements were made during production are there "better" years? are there some options that should be avoided or some that make a particular car more desirable? NOW THE TOUGHEST QUESTION ,is there some way to get an average price for an average car,as some cherish and drive only special occasion, while some are not daily drivers but get driven 2-3 times week (but never in bad weather)and some are daily drivers. I guess an average car would be one w/ 5to 7thou.mile per year so an 03 w/ 30 to 35 thou mile decent shape not perfect worth what??
Well I can't tell you what the Z would go for, but 99 FRC's are going for $18,000 with only 64,000 miles. I would assume the Z06 would still be worth close to $27,000 give or take mods, condition, location, carfax etc
The C5 was a great platform right off. The first year cars had some problems with the windows sealing at high speeds, but that's about all I recall. Here's a breakdown of the differences that I can remember.
97-98: Convertible introduced in '98.
99-00: Newer PCM introduced (more tuning options). Centerbolt valve covers. Active Handling. Heads up display. Fixed Roof coupe introduced. ABS improved.
01-04: Z06 introduced. 85mm MAF. LS6 intake. Better seat leather. Improved Active Handling.
The best value will be the 99-00 models since you can get Active Handling and the HUD with the lowest entry cost. If he wants to do any modifications the 99-00 models have the updated PCM as well. If he can find an '01 for a little more the refinements to AH and the seat leather along with the LS6 intake are nice.

As far as the difference between a C4 and a C5 ..... you've gotta be kidding .... name ONE part that is interchangeable between the cars .... just take the basics ....
* new frame (hydroformed steel)
* new suspension
* new engine
* new computer systems
* new EVERYTHING ...
Having both a C4 and a C5 that I have put to the test I can easily say that the handling characteristics are night and day with the C5 being the better right out of the box. In comparison a highly modified C4 suspension can handle about as good as a stock Z51 or C5Z out of the box.
There are too many changes to say, but suspension geometry being a big one as well as a much more rigid frame...
You can find some low mile 99-00 FRC's for a great deal.
I sold my 94 to get my 02. I guess I am in the minority but there are somethings that I think the c-4 did just as well as or better than the c-5. The c-4 is deffinately more of a "sports car", the engine "sounds" on the c-4 are much better and the dash is at least unique in the c-4 as opposed the c-5 dash being an almost exact copy of my Avalanche. Lots of other little things that make the c-4 a great car. As to the c-5, much easier to get in and out of, heads up display, more "modern". They are both great cars. No c-5 ever left my c-4 in the dust so to speak (I am not talking about on a drag strip, I couldn't care less about 9/10 performance.) I like them both, won't trade back to a c-4, but c-5 is not the end all either in comparison.
I can't stand the C4's dash. It's just nasty. Every car mag I have ever read bashed it. Sound wise, just replace the exhaust on the C5. My car has won the best sounding exhaust the past 2 years against all generations in the local shows. I see nothing that makes the C4 "more of a sports car". Much less stiff. Heavier. Poorer weight distribution. Inferior suspension geometry.
The C4 is a great car in it's own right. I'd love to have one along side my C5. But the C5 was a huge leap forward.

Hey, BLOWNBLUEZ06 ......
I hate to keep asking questions, but who the heck is Dwight D Eisenhower?

President of the United States .... 1952 to 1960 .... followed President Truman, was the president prior to Kennedy ... the Corvette was released during his administration.
He was also Supreme Allied Commander of the allied forces in the battle to defeat Germany in World War 2 .... which is probably part of the reason he was elected president.
Do a web search on Eisenhower and WW2, or Eisenhower and president ..... or even Eisenhower and Nixon .... who was his Vice President ... then lost the election to John Kennedy .... then was elected president in 1972 against a typically weak Democratic candididate (Humphrey).
This forum can be fun and funny sometimes. To get this back to Corvette related (even remotely). We can thank President Ike for the interstate highway system.

Well if you ask me what makes a sports car I'd have to say performance and looks, which the C5 wins hands down in both categories.
