I just swapped my stock exaust for some borla straight pipes and i lost a significant amount of low end power. some one said get an intake to make it better. if so what should i get that is a good bang for my buck? i just swapped the balancer for a slp as well.

What year Vette do you have? 2000 and earlier had an old style intake and yes you can pick up a little throttle response going to the newer style intake. Otherwise, I'm sure you will get some improvement from other intakes, but some say you need other mods to really take advantage of them.

I don't see how you lost low end power by replacing the cat-back...I don't even think that is possibel But, if we are discussing intake choices I would highly recommend the Vararam I have the breathless intake and it works great too, but if I would choose the vararam in the future.

Doubtful you actually lost any power...but, as with many exhaust systems, any improvement won't be experienced until you move further up in the power band (@ higher rpms). You also might need a tune to fully realize any improvements.
That's why many owners prefer gear changes over exhaust changes...but, hey...it probably "sounds" more powerful with straight pipes. Many owners equate louder intake or exhaust sound with more power.
And good luck with attracting more attention to yourself...

Ya, some say you will get a lot of that "some say" because there are so many variables involved.

Two things can be done on the intake. One is reffered to as a cold air intake, which is replacement of the stock air box. Some are more involved than others. Vararam is a favorite by a lot of people, but I would check out LG's new one, it covers your year and is pretty cheap. I would get one from them but I have a new style MAF.

Next, is the actual intake. The "LS6" intake is better, it was actually put on all LS1 and LS6 engines afer about 2001. It will give more throttle response, you can find them used for $300 or maybe a little less. The F-body ones are the same. They can be identified by having a flat bottom. Go to LS1howto.com for instructions and photos of the intake.

Some say ask a lot of questions and plan out the mods or you may buy stuff twice LOL...

From what I hear, some intake manifolds work better with cars with heads, cams, more cubes, or FI. Stock engines don't benifit as much, but I suspect they do benifit because it seems some are using the FAST intake on more milder builds.

The Vararam is probably the most popular Vette intake that we sell, and it seems to have the best power gains. If you'd like a good write-up on it check out this link on our site:

You may have screwed up the cars back pressure with the straight pipes. I would get the car tuned, thats a must, and you need an intake anyway, thats what I would have got before the exhaust personally.
