Default I need engine advice

I purchased a 97 c5 mm6 back in november. When I bought it it had 108k and now has almost 117k. It is my daily driver and I absoulty enjoy every time i buckle the seat belt. My question to all of you tech guys is what shout be the new powerplant for my commuter/weekend warrior? Fuel milage isn'nt much of a concern, I have 5 mile commute, and I want to make some real power 600hp neiborhood My question is what platform should I use (ls1,ls6,ls2,ls7?) I don't want to do a lot of major electronic modifications, changing the entire harness out of my car. I would like to go na and on pump gas but I am not opposed to a forced indution motor if I use smaller ci's. let me know what your oppion is and what kind of power is made. I have access to a machine shop and I do all my own work so that is not an issue. oh yeah and try and do it sort of budget (im 20 and am currently saving for real estate ) minded and without nitrous. I guess mainly is what are the modifications to fit an ls2, 3,7 in a ls1 based car. Is it easier to swap the ecu's? where are the sensor locations? I know I have egr and a could set that up myself for when I smog it. As I mentioned eariler I have access to all my own machine work and a custom cam grinder and flow bench ect. Just looking to get more cubes basically with bore not stroke.

I'd look at a 416ci LS3 which is what I recently installed in my 02 Z06. Only have 300 miles on it so no dyno numbers yet but should run about 540 rwhp. Built by LME and I installed it myself. Budget should be about $12k for the motor and $4k for misc. parts: i.e. I ported my intake/tb, installed new clutch, slave cylinder, clutch bleeder, belts/hoses, replaced all fluids, new water pump, valve covers, AR Headers, etc...

you can make that power with an LS1. You just have to have the right connections. Excellent head and cam combo with FAST intake, 90mm TB, Headers, and the rest of the bolt ons. Head and cam is what you need to pay attention to. I believe LS6 heads have a different and better design. You get a porter from SAM and you can make 600 no prob.

I'd consider a supercharger on an LS1 engine. Minimal cost (use same sensors, engine, PCM, etc.) and same fuel mileage if you're not "getting on it". There are 3 manufacturer's listing Superchargers for the C5 LS1 engine in the CARB database that are California smog legal .... which can be a problem since our area has one of the "strictest" smog level requirements in Cali.

Vortech lists part numbers ...

4GR218-010
4GR218-020
......... -030
......... -040

Procharger lists

1GK213-SCI
1GK216-SCI

Magna Charger lists

01-10-58-001-002

I'll let you look up the kits to see the diffeerences and what the performance claims are for them. For a reliable engine you probably won't get 600 HP .... but a SC will givee you quite a bump over stock.

I doubt you'll be able to build a 600 HP "smog legal" engine .... that is a "track only" type engine.

You can have a nice little runner for that price. Have your bottom end forged, scrap your factory heads for better ones, cam, supercharger, headers, ls6 intake..you'll be in the 600hp range no problem.
