Default Demon Key Broke now what?

Well I was trying to remove the demon key and I broke the top off now what? I was removing the stock assembly and putting in a hurst shifter, and delrin **** so I pulled out the stock shifter with the ****, leather boot and the rubber boot left on. So I can work on this in a vise etc. But I need to get the leather boot and rubber boot off in one piece.

Any suggestions, I would prefer to keep the stock **** and shifter in one piece also for if/when I convert it back to stock.

a needle nose vice grip should be able to reach in there.

How much of the top did you break off? Is there ANY room to grab with vice grips, or did it break down into the shaft?

Knowing how tight those demon keys are, I doubt very much if it will come out, if you don't have a substantial gripping area for the vice grips.

If you can't get at it, the only two options left are to either drill the demon key out (you're going to need another one anyway), or buy yourself a nice, quality leather boot from Vette Essentials and don't worry about the stock boot. If you leave that stock assembly all together, including boot, you can re-use the whole complex later if you like. But your key will still be broke.

BTW if you feel like destroying your stock shift **** to get things apart, I will send you my stock **** and demon key. Just has a minor scuff on the edge of the leather top near the demon key from trying to get the damn thing out! Nobody was interested when I tried to sell it for $5, so you can have it if ya need it.

Good luck with it all!

I broke my key also, decided to cut off the **** with a hacksaw, now you can thread the shaft, and have a shorter shifter.

You should be able to drill a hole in the key, and thread a screw into it. Then you can pull it out with the screw.
Also, sometimes when you drill a hole in a key that is pressed in, it relieves pressure on it so it will come out easier. If you drill a hole almost the same diameter as the key, you may be able to just collapse it inward.

Now you know why it's called a "demon key".

I tried for 10 minutes with a vice grip to no avail. I finally took two screw drivers and pryed up on each side and it popper right out.

Vice grips are not the correct tool for this one.
